About 80 new covid-19 infections, most them the delta variant, were reported yesterday here. Whole districts and individual sets of buildings in cities where the virus has been found are locked down except for essential services, and city wide testing and full contact tracing is underway. Officials and leaders in those cities who did not exercise sufficient effort or manage control methods adequatly have been punished by removal from their posts. Meanwhile, I see that not only the Wall Street Journal but the NY Times is propagandizing against China-style methods to eradicate the virus. The Times published an article claiming that the New Outbreak here shows the ‘fragility’ of China’s approach and cited some so-called experts suggesting that the homicidal methods used in Britain might best be adopted by China. Of course, this is all nonsense. Whatever we might think of the Chinese regime in other respects, it’s a fact that not only the central govlernment but all 1.4 billion of us here - incluidng large numbers of volunteers who assist in contact tracing and other work - stand solidly behind the virus contral program. There are criticisms of course, some on the internet, but they are invariably about official laxity in *not taking sufficientr prevnetive measures or not suffiicinetly enforcing necessary steps to protect us or for temporary delays in adequatenly organizing things like food deliveries to tenants in locked down buildings where the virus had been found"
IMHO, there are too many stupid people in the U.S., who refuse to listen to science, educate themselves, and rebel against authority. Sometimes authority is right in what they are saying to do, but the stupid people refuse to see that and want to do whatever they want to do. I can only hope the virus starts taking out the stupid ones. That problem with that is, the stupid people often take out those who try to do what they need to do and young innocent children, who really don’t know any better and do what they re taught.

I got the vaccine scar when I was a kid and we all just accepted it. It was years before I understood the risk vs rewards discussion that put that in place. Again, you totally missed the point. Those who are fighting what we need to do to fight the pandemic are the very ones coming down with the disease. That in itself has nothing to do with elections, because they could be dead before then. We don’t see as many people who do what they need to do (masks, social distance, vaccination…) getting the virus. The Repugs are shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to COVID-19.

Reporting on negotiations between the White House and Republican legislators suggests that almost half of funds for K-12 schools in the COVID-19 aid package could be unavailable to schools that do not reopen with in-person learning. CDC guidance on school reopening has become so politicized that it now lacks credibility.
This is no longer amusing. Watching people turn reality upside down was just funny for awhile. But to see a complete reversal to, “my truth is what I say it is”, as opposed to demonstrable truth, is really becoming a little scary.
