Democracy is a joke, says China – just look at Donald Trump

Oh, V, do you think humanity has changed in the past 70 years?
Yes I do. Big time. I also think comparing Trump to Mussolini or Hitler is a hackneyed last ditch effort. That includes comparing it to the process of Trump's rise, his campaign style, and the man himself. But you do what you gotta do.Keep in mind V, you are operating under the burden of Trump hero worship I fear. So you may be a bit biased yourself. I myself prefer real statesman and thinkers, no matter how out of fashion they are, so there's my bias. I'd be curious though, how do you believe the masses have changed Big Time in the past 70years? :-/

There will always be glitches to contend with in any form of government. I believe, as Winston Churchill did, that the glitches in Democracy are far fewer, overall less destructive and are more capable of being remedied than in any other form of government.
“It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.” Winston Churchill.

You prefer thinkers do ya? Yes, I see.

You prefer thinkers do ya? Yes, I see. I didn't say they were best for mud fight. But hell yes I prefer thinking people to reactionary sheople. Wanna make something of it  Oh and I'm curious how do you think people the different today from seventy years ago? Although, now that you got me thinking about the differences. It's certainly not a sense of humanity, we're as tribal, short sighted and vengeance thirsty as ever. But, I think of a couple outstandingly important and sadly underrated difference are Today's profound disconnect from the natural world and the rhythms that sustain it (this would include the rhythms of agriculture and animal husbandry and weather.) - Also, this one's more difficult to put into words, but it seems that most America these days live insulated from the front lines of life, and the consequences of their actions. Used to be one learned to take shit seriously, and learned your cautions, or you'd get mangled or die - you learned to take life and nature seriously. Nowadays most couldn't imagine spending a few days away from all structures, just you and the "real" natural world out there. Worst I think folks, and V, sometimes I think you might identify with them, think somehow we've escaped those quaint constraints of nature and that you(we, society) are somehow in charge. A fatal hubris one would suggest. Seems to me, another difference might be that today, too many are filled with a sense of entitlement, but no sense of responsibility or duty, or even community (well, other than the current reversion back to base tribalism).
Oh and I'm curious how do you think people the different today from seventy years ago?
This all stems from you comparing a public figure of today to Hitler...and then asking how humanity has changed in the last 70 years. I see you've changed the wording a little. Nothing you have written warrants any kind of in depth answers.

Well if you disregard the source and simply think about the thought
“The rise of a racist in the US political area worries the whole world," -------- (said) this week ahead of of Trump’s victory in the latest round of primaries. “He has even been called another Benito Mussolini or Adolf Hitler by some western media." (that's fact, not opinion) It added, darkly: “Mussolini and Hitler came to power through elections, a heavy lesson for western democracy."
Hmmm, well all that's plenty true, isn't it. :smirk:
“Mussolini and Hitler came to power through elections, a heavy lesson for western democracy." Think about that line a little. The warning is that a fearful, pissed off, under-informed electorate can make hideous future-trashing choices. Don't have to look further than Cheney/Bush Administration to see the truth in that. Trump, he's a wild card, but unfortunately he's also revealed himself to have little conception of the world beyond his own self-interest (no being a "successful" businessman on Dad's buck; knowing how to play bankruptcy laws and the media; and being an unabashed egomaniac - are not qualifiers for intelligence. )
Think about that line a little.
I don't have to think about that line. It's ridiculous. It's suggestive tripe at best. You obviously know little of history. By your statement, we should be working on getting rid of free elections then? If Hitler and Musso were put in power by them.

I've gathered you're under-informed. My take is you sit up in the hills of Colorado and smoke weed all day. Your only connection to the outside is through a computer screen. You better figure out what is important to be informed about CC. Perhaps you're not cognizant of the actual numbers Trump is bringing in. It's way beyond the realm of fringe outliers. You're pitifully under-informed. You live in a bubble like alot of folks here.

Guess you don't pay attention to any of my posts, I've gotten off this splendid little hill more than you'd care imagine. (but it sure as hell is heaven getting back to - even after tasting the luxury lifestyle and watching them rich types up close and personal.) But then creating straw men to burn rather than dealing with the person in front of you is a favorite tactic of everyone. Its strength seems to be related to the weakness in one's argument creating the need for distractions.

And you don't think America's "fearful, pissed off, under-informed electorate" masses are growing with every disaster and the relentless strangulation of realistic hope? Not to mention their growing disgust with elected officialdom and regulatory complexities spinning out of control? You seem to be ignore the maddening hysteria gripping people and their need to find enemies to blame all their problems on - rather than admitting to the huge mistakes of their own.

Not to mention the horrendous dumbing down that faith-based thinking, Hollywood and Media and Obsession with (free ride) Consumerism has inflicted on our once hardworking informed electorate! :smirk:

I love these dog walks plenty of time to meditate. VYAZMA, allow me to share this morning's musings: You know V at 60 I'm more into looking back and reflecting on the highlights of my life. Trying to put my long strange but wonderful trip into perspective. Now I feel compelled to share another chapter with you. At 20, I found myself sitting behind the steering wheel of an 18-wheeler with a 40' trailer, and asked: "Think you can drive this beast?" I said, Yeah, if you teach me. Long story short I spent two months on the road, logged 10,000 driving, covered three dozen states drive , experienced more adventures with Joe Sharteer, a VietNam vet, hero in those two months than most long haul drivers experience in a decade. Joe little crazy, but sharp as a tack, but hey, who else would give a kid a shot at something like that (mind you 20/no lic, no health card, outlaw. if you will;). He needed a second driver, we got along, and I took shit seriously. It's so easy to bad mouth what you know nothing about. Why I bring that story up is because this 20 year old kid, sat behind that death machine and traveled the roads, highways and back roads, even the nightmare of Boston. Sweaty palms plenty, proud and heady, but for real scary, every second deadly serious and I'd better not fuck up! I look back on that, not only the things it taught me about the road and the reality of 18-wheelers, but the having to step up and not fuck up, no place for banter, shit your pants a little keep your eyes upon the road and your hands upon the wheel and taste white line fever ( not the drug kind the painted strip kind). I've lived on my own dime and now I'm a maintenance guy and handyman man - but you want to think I'm a stoned out coach potato dreaming about the bigger world through my computer. That sort of passive-agressive denigrating self-defensive stuff is bullshit - got not one damned thing to do with me, or who I actually am. Got that chump! >:-( Although I'm definitely on the outside looking in, no denying that :cheese:
For someone who got on me for alleged logical fallacies you sure are full of ad hominems, Vyazma. I can understand, though. You have no facts to back your assertions so you resort to personal attacks.
Wrong Darron. This is what happens when people bring ad hominem, sensationalism, biased, faulty analogies to a discussion. When people, like yourself, repeatedly forego serious political discourse and trade it in for childish memes, attacks, etc.. Just look at the title of this thread. What kind of one-dimensional, absent-minded person would tune into anything that comes from China in the way of critiques of our political system? Obviously China doesn't relish the idea of a Trump presidency; he has lambasted them repeatedly for unfair trade policies. But you're probably ok with that though... Last I checked you're nominally connected to anything remotely resembling an economy....no? Better to be worried about a confused person's right to use the restroom of their choice? Right? These are big issues.... Why don't you move to China when Denmark refuses(ironically) your application for citizenship.
It's so easy to bad mouth what you know nothing about.
No, that applies to you. You know nothing about the situation millions of Americans find themselves in. You know nothing of how Mussolini or Hitler rose to power, obviously. You're bad mouthing what you know nothing about. Obviously you have no idea about ratios, numbers or demographics. It's far better to assume that Trump has garnered support from some fringe minority of bigots right? That about it covers it right? You better brush up on your math skills. Or better yet just keep eating at the Red Meat Buffet...it's all you can eat CC. Stuff yourself with it. 60 second soundbytes and the Hollowed out New-Liberal bandwagon. Also what else have you done? Drove truck for a few years? Are you another one on here who has no real connection to the real world? To working people? The poor? People who don't give a f%ck about parties or politics? They don't have the luxury of fretting about AGW all goddamned day!
They don't have the luxury of fretting about AGW all goddamned day!
Ahh, so here we get to the heart of the matter.
Also what else have you done? Drove truck for a few years?
Obviously, you don't pay much attention to what you read. It was two month's buddy. Then it was back to getting on with getting my ass over to Germany, the adventure I was already set on. The point I was making is that I'm aware of way more trades, and working solid regular hours double shifting and moon-lighting on top of that. You'd be amazed at how many right-wing sheople co-workers have thought me a good guy and co-worker. But, then face to face and working together definitely sets up a different dynamic… I wonder how familiar are you with working on a crew with diverse individuals? :smirk: But, I'm 60 now and had the common sense not to get hung up on stacking up materialist stuff (crap) and tons of bills - A truck full of tools and a nice 600 sq.ft. nicely furnished cabin does me/us just fine. So f you if you're jealous that I can get away with part-timing it and spending a bunch of hard won free time on some thinking and writing before I die. Why not??? Oh what have I done lately? Right now I'm doing my annual Love Durango Thing and coordinating twenty entities and then a bunch of volunteers to serve 250 people six meals over three days. Volunteering my time and effort even. It doesn't make me any hero - but it does put the lie to your assumption that I can't deal with reality, people or that I'm clueless about America. But then you consider President Kennedy worthless, so my feelings aren't hurt by your judgement, which is apparently quite shallow and terribly biased - at least based on the judgements you scatter about. ps - if my concern about Anthropogenic Global Warming bothers you - at least get caught up on why I'm doing it http://whatsupwiththatwatts.blogspot.com/2016/01/about-this-blog-and-me.html
Why don't you move to China when Denmark refuses(ironically) your application for citizenship.
AMERICA LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT !!! I reckon you're pretty full of American Exceptionalism - everyone else is scum - and don't no buddy else no nut'n.
Ahh, so here we get to the heart of the matter.
In a way it is the heart of the matter. But only in the sense that I nailed down your perspective in life. Your involvement in real life issues. It's exactly what I thought after piecing together tidbits you have thrown out over the years. You are basically clueless.
I reckon you're pretty full of American Exceptionalism - everyone else is scum - and don't no buddy else no nut'n.
Yeah, keep trying CC...you're way off the mark. Darron himself said he would move to Denmark if Trump got elected. I'm just worried he may not be able to get in there. Denmark is really cracking down on migrants.
They don't have the luxury of fretting about AGW all goddamned day!
Ahh, so here we get to the heart of the matter. I just want to touch on this one notch further... I've listened to you for years decry that you can't understand why people are not getting active about the climate.. Why nobody cares... "Anybody who does not care about my pet issues are irrelevant in a political consensus." That about sums you up.
But then you consider President Kennedy worthless, so my feelings aren't hurt by your judgement, which is apparently quite shallow and terribly biased - at least based on the judgements you scatter about.
Huhn? JFK? Did I mention JFK somewhere?
