So this June..coming up in about 5 months?Nah, I wish though. We promised the Grandkids a trip to mouseland this June. June 2017 is my target, and I'm serious about the idea. Cap't Jack
No no, look above. I was wrong about the Beagle. Darwin didn't name it. Sorry! :bug:Yeah, but would he buy a boat named "The Beagle" and not change its name, if he didn't like dogs?Maybe he had a cat he named Beagle. That would be a serious affront to a cat's dignity. I don't think Darwin would do that.

You never know what he might have gotten up to. He also had 10 kids who might have thought it would be a hoot.He cared more about his pigeons than his dog, but he did involve himself with dog breeders, using the concept of selective Breeding. It eventually led him down the path to natural selection. His voyage on the Beagle clinched it for him, especially when he visited the Galápagos Islands. That's where he picked up his pet tortoise, which he named "James" BTW and it died in 1837, three years after the voyage. Cap't Jack
He may have picked up 3 tortoises from the Galapagos. Harriett who died only 10 years ago was said, but not proven to be one of those. DNA testing confirmed her age (176 yrs) but indicated that she was from an island that Darwin never visited. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/13115101/ns/world_news-asia_pacific/t/-year-old-darwins-tortoise-dies-zoo/#.VquvPBrSm1sYou never know what he might have gotten up to. There were two confirmed when the carcasses were discovered having the name of the Island (James) and a number corresponding with a catalogue list. But we may never know conclusively. https://www.theguardian.com/science/animal-magic/2014/feb/12/celebrity-pet-discovery-darwin-tortoise Cap't Jack
Thanks Cap’t Jack. As usual you are a reliable source in historical matters.
