Cuteness is weakness

Young kids don’t have a future anymore

This is why I’m involved with politics, environmentalism, etc because I want my grandson to have have a future. I worry about humans not taking that small window of chance to change climate change, reverse it. I worry we could miss it and my grandson not grow up. As my older son (my grandson’s uncle) said, “He’s fu**ed” when we were had a similar discussion concerning the dotard, climate change, etc. That’s why I’m involved advocating for renewable energy, women’s health care, health care for all, regulations for industry, Social security (not just for my generation, but so the Boomers can also keep it, not have it slashed), etc etc. If we don’t start advocating for change and pestering our politicians until they listen, if they listen, nothing will change.

Except nothing will change. I have seen how easily the system takes rebellion and turns it into another product to sell back to us. I don’t see people changing any time soon because everyone is focused on the outrageous drama of the White House and we have a president telling people that feelings are more important than facts. We have movements based on demonstrably FALSE information growing because of a mistrust in the system and professionals. You would think Flat Earth would die like it did in the past but to think they are growing, or that anti-vaccine are at the level of affecting legislation. No, humanity is doomed and I will at least try to enjoy the thirty years I have left on Earth. I was hoping to live into old age but apparently retirement is shot and the world will supposedly end prior to that. I guess 58-60 ish isn’t a bad run. The problem is that humans weren’t designed to comprehend long term problems. Evolution designed us for the now not the way later. Add that with the cognitive bias that makes it hard for people to change their minds and well…

The sad thing is that the only way to convince the deniers is to show them and by that point it will be too late.

Pessimistic much, Xian? Eeyore had more enthusiasm for life.

thatoneguy: I don’t know Sree, when I was a teen, girls were pretty wiley and miles ahead of the guys. They got a little bit nicer in their 20s.
You seem to know what women want. Why do women like cads?
Pessimistic much, Xian? Eeyore had more enthusiasm for life.
More like realistic. Optimism is for people who don't know enough.

One can be realistic without being a pessimist.

@Mriana, Tough one, that. Dancing on a razor’s edge.

you know you’re singing to the choirs on that one, . . . care for some links

@citizenschallengev3 For most here I am preaching to the choir, but the comment was meant for Xian. That said, if I need to provide links on my statement then I feel Xians should provide links to his statement too. Pessimism doesn’t necessarily mean one is facing reality anymore than being optimistic does. Either way, one might not necessarily be facing reality.

The rest I came up with on my own
No. You didn't. You heard things and put them together. That's how we all do it.. You've done better than other people, but there is always more to learn.

Buddhism is thousands of years old. Millions have learned from it and built on it. We don’t do this stuff alone.

It’s very human to rally around another human that is experiencing a problem, but whining about being cute doesn’t meet that threshold for me. Whatever happened to critical thinking?

“Pessimism”usually means having to face reality, optimism is often unfounded.

When I said: “care for some links” - it was self defensive reflex, I often get shit over this or that I wrote, with the cheat shot, ‘easy to talk about, try doing something.’ And I think obviously you know nothing about my various engagements with actually doing something for others, including our Democratic system.

?

Oh dear from cuteness to pessimism. Big topic that one. Hal might even find that one more interesting. Maybe it's time for a new thread?

I’m just tired of hoping for the better when history doesn’t reflect such a trend.

History? Have you heard of the black plague?

Xain says “I’m just tired of hoping for the better when history doesn’t reflect such a trend.”

are you a history buff? What is your position on human history before the biblical character Jesus was walking or the first century? Or for that matter are you referring to the history of the contemporary brand name religions? What trend in history are you referring.

when you grow old you might appreciate a baby face when you where younger and regret your immature thoughts back then (as in now)

Hal, I think your comment deserves to be at the top this page way more than my trivial correction.

Thanks for joining in,

Mriana in my above comment “you” = one.

it was poorly written.

Wow you could not be more off base. It's immature to be hopeful and optimistic, growing up is leaving such fantasies behind and acknowledging the harshness of reality. Modernity has fooled us into thinking life is safer and better than it really is. I would not mind losing this face, maybe then people will stop treating me like a child.

Oh I forget, Xian, you’re a man. Women appreciate looking younger than they are, especially as they get older. I’m sorry you can’t be optimistic, but that has nothing to do with maturity. It does have to do with cynicism though and you seem to me very much the cynic.
