I’m curious, how many around here have actually had COVID?

As far as I know, I have not, but I always wear a mask properly (with two PM 2.5 filters) when not at home, we don’t eat out, we try to social distance as much as we can, and stay home when not at work, asking everyone (Orkin, AB May, etc) who enters to wear a mask before entering. Vaccinated family (sister-in-law, mother-in-law, my family) are the only ones who can enter my home without a mask on.

My wife and me did not until now, We took tests this morning and we are waiting for a result.

My daughter and her companion got it. My mother did not.

Good so far. Gargle with bleach every morning. Stocked up on Ivermectin. Had an unvaccinated niece over on Christmas, and been to a friend’s who is not vaxxed for unknown reasons. Another niece got it before vax was out, she still can’t taste. Luckily my social life is not active anyway.

I know quite a few people who have minor cases. One hospitalization, and a friend of a friend who died.

I wish you well, heck I wish us well, found out yesterday that someone that’s been visiting this household I’m staying at for a month, has tested positive. But guess there’s no point in us taking the test for five days after exposure, though beginning of next week, going to figure out where to get them.

I had a weird feeling coming out to South Carolina (just barely, less than a mile from North C.) was going to total jack up our exposure risk. Now guess it’s time to see what resources our collective bodies can muster.

But the bleach tastes awful!!! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Think I’ll stick with the salt water gargle.

There’s been a run on Ivermectin in South Carolina, so I’d have to mail order it from China, but you never know what kind of tampering those people do before packing it up, so we hesitate.
:exploding_head:

I purposely kissed a COVID infected person, I’m going for herd immunity!!!

That is good to know. Please forward that information to: Immunologist Georg Behrens, professor at the Hannover Medical School at the Clinic for Rheumatology and Immunology.

I’m pretty sure he knows this. It’s you Mike. You take information, some even from good sources, and twist it around to make it mean something you want it to mean. You’re supposed to FOLLOW the evidence, not find evidence for what you already believe.

Bless you for doing everything you can to keep your family safe.

Let’s agree on the basics.

Let’s look at some history of immune escape and breakthrough to better understand mutations. Vaccines protect against diseases, not infections. AIDS was a major infection virus. In 2004 there was a problem with immune escape with aids. And it is still a problem today. We are talking about a virus that after 37 years of research we have not been able to make a vaccine for that the scientists claimed would be ready in two years. HIV virus mutates quickly, so does the Covid.

Now ask yourself, how many times have you heard or read about breakthrough cases in the last month alone?

Vaccine breakthrough cases are defined as instances in which an individual tested positive for COVID-19 after being fully-vaccinated (more than 14 days after completing their vaccine series).

This report details the levels of such cases, and hospitalizations among fully-vaccinated people, in New York State.

As of data received through January 1, 2022, the New York State Department of Health is aware of: 651,287 laboratory-confirmed breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among fully-vaccinated people in New York State, which corresponds to 4.9% of the population of fully-vaccinated people 12-years or older.

NIH - Immune escape precedes breakthrough human immunodeficiency virus type 1 viremia and broadening of the cytotoxic T-lymphocyte response in an HLA-B27-positive long-term-nonprogressing child

Key. Breakthrough cases follow immune escape.

Key. You cannot have an immune escape in the unvaccinated.

NCBI - ‘ A breakthrough infection is defined as a detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigen or RNA more than 14 days after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine .’

Implication of SARS-CoV-2 Immune Escape Spike Variants on Secondary and Vaccine Breakthrough Infections

This article highlights the pressures that facilitate the rise of new SARS-CoV-2 variants and the key mutations of the viral spike protein – L452R, E484K, N501Y and D614G– that promote immune escape mechanism and warrant a cautionary point for clinical and public health responses in terms of re-infection, vaccine breakthrough infection and therapeutic values.

Not in the immediate family, but I can count roughly 15-20 people that I know have had it. (nieces, nephews, in-laws, co-workers, friends, etc)

There was a staff meeting at work in Mid Dec that (wink wink) “you might want to attend in person, rather than virtual.” So I went. (masked, vaxed, and distanced) A week later I learned the guy I was sitting next to got it and was pretty sick. Boy was I nervous for the next few days…
Then I learned the rest of his department got sick too.

Our “Work from home” days are supposed to come to an end this Friday, and be back in the office Jan 10.
There is a lot of pushback.

I’m scheduled for my 3rd shot end of January.

Remember early on there were “COVID parties” and TikTok challenges … licking toilet seats …

Article
Summary:
Married couple dies of COVID within 48hrs of each other.
Neither were vaccinated.
Both had health problems - which was probably the reason they did not get vax’d. (the article didn’t come right out and say so)

These are the people that die because of those that CHOOSE not to get vax’d

I do and there was the one woman who wanted all the germs to “build up her immunity”. Very stupid. I don’t know if she’s alive or dead, but personally, I want all the vaccines I can possibly get.

So here’s a thought … I haven’t seen it anywhere else, but …

If I am “forced” to go back to work and I get sick, I could very well wind up with some hefty medical bills. Probably like most others, I am on a high-deductible plan.
The company should pay my COVID related costs - for me and anyone covered under my plan.
Also, the company should be prepared for days/weeks where a lot of people are out sick. We’ve had that with just the flu in past years.
And if I’m too sick to go into work, I am too sick to work from home!

I know I could quit, but IMHO that would be pretty extreme for my particular situation.
It’s not like I’m a 30yo sanitation worker that could likely get infected, but could also likely find another job.

That is a highly unlikely scenario. Demanding that you get vaccinated before you are allowed to work is a more likely possibility.

Some friends and family members had a New Year’Eve party. All being fully vaccinated, they neglected to take test beforehand.

Result, from 7 adults, all except 3 are positive, two of theses 3 having caught the disease a dew month ago .the think that they were contaminated by a child.

In France in ICU, 10 % of COVID patients hold false vaccination certificates. A law is being voted by parliament. when it is in force,n holders of false certificate can ask for true vaccination and will not be prosecuted. but is they use them, they risk 5 years jail and a fine of 82 000 $.

I am fed up with people who say " I have nothing against vaccination, i don’t think that there is a risk, but i don’t need to vaccinate against COVID. "

For me they are coward and selfish who don’t even dare to admit they are afraid.

ICU are full with them.

New variant in France from Africa ! Just great

I did, but didn’t know it. Was in hospital for another issue, but they put me in the COVID isolation ward. When I asked why I was there, nurse told me; yep you tested positive. and hooked me up on antivirals. Next day my oxygen level started dropping from congestion and they put me on oxyxen . Stayed 3 days and was cured enough to have my heart ablation (arrhythmia). Was discharged on the 4th day.

Healthy as a horse since then. We Dutch people are pretty resistant to viruses.
Holland is dank, rife with viruses and the Dutch have evolved a pretty solid herd immunity
