Change comes willingly or unwillingly
Don’t stand on the mountain top shouting doom and gloom. DO SOMETHING !!!

Signed up for National tree planting day August 1. Is that something???I commend you for the effort. But are you prepared to wait 20 years for a tree forest to mature?
Use your voice to advance the idea of planting Hemp. Just a little research will show you the unmatched benefits of the Hemp plant.
Industrial Hemp
Hemp, or industrial hemp, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for industrial use. It can be used to make a wide range of products. Along with bamboo, hemp is one of the fastest growing plants on Earth.https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e4/La_Roche_Jagu_chanvre_1.JPG/440px-La_Roche_Jagu_chanvre_1.JPG
It was also one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 50,000 years ago.[3] It can be refined into a variety of commercial items, including paper, rope, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed.[4][5]
Hemp is used to make a variety of commercial and industrial products, including rope, textiles, clothing, shoes, food, paper, bioplastics, insulation, and biofuel.[4] The bast fibers can be used to make textiles that are 100% hemp, but they are commonly blended with other fibers, such as flax, cotton or silk, as well as virgin and recycled polyester, to make woven fabrics for apparel and furnishings.
The inner two fibers of the plant are woodier and typically have industrial applications, such as mulch, animal bedding, and litter. When oxidized (often erroneously referred to as "drying"), hemp oil from the seeds becomes solid and can be used in the manufacture of oil-based paints, in creams as a moisturizing agent, for cooking, and in plastics. Hemp seeds have been used in bird feed mix as well.[14] A survey in 2003 showed that more than 95% of hemp seed sold in the European Union was used in animal and bird feedhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp
Consider the growth speed that this excellent plant possesses. In 1 year, 1 acre of Hemp can equal the benefits of 20 years of 1 acre of trees !!!
It requires very little maintenance, water, or soil restrictions. Just sow and watch it grow. A densely planted Hemp forest yields soft fibers for clothing, a spread planting pattern produces tall strong fibrous plants. Why this plant is not extensively used in the US is a total mystery to me and probably has to do with suppression from competing oil-based industries.
Please, do check it out and spread the word.
p.s. when a post disappears go back 1 page and it’ll be there. There seems to be a page numbering error somewhere.
You on the streets like XR are , occupying public private space, enacting civil disobedience behaviour, pressuring with direct action your local member - all to advance a hemp agriculture climate response?
Who is practising civil disobedience? I am advocating the legalization of industrial Hemp which has no psycho-active properties at all!!!
The prohibition against growing Hemp is an unconstitutional restriction on growing a beneficial plant. Let’s change the law and then we can do something about this pesky AGW that will probably kill millions of people and other species that are slow to adapt to climate change.

Where the rubber hits the road - how are you going about making this change? What are you doing? Give me something
Do some reading on the benefits of Hemp growing. Why is it legal in Canada? Why is it legal in Europe? Familiarize yourself with the industry.
Get in touch with the Hemp industry. It is a legitimate industry, not some drug gang. Ask how you can help.
If you are an activist you will find a niche where you can advance the notion. It is a noble goal.
I am an old man, but I have written extensively on the benefits of Hemp. I have been a public voice. It’s the least I can do.
Give me something.

Oho! Look: crayfish in the water have a lot of legs and tentacles, what made them evolve so much? Who do they come from? Why did they appear? What is the choice here, if they walk in the water ?! And their vision? How did he develop in them? Accidentally? How? And the fish? They also have eyesight!
Is that supposed to make sense to anyone who can’t read your mind?
If you want to better understand where eye’s come from might I suggest this video taped lecture:
Darwin College Lecture SeriesEvolution of the Eye by Dan E. Nilsson - Feb 7, 2019
Eyes abound in the animal kingdom. Some are large as basketballs and others are just fractions of a millimetre. Eyes also come in many different types, such as the compound eyes of insects, the mirror eyes of scallops or our own camera-like eyes. Common to all animal eyes is that they serve the same fundamental role of collecting external information for guiding the animal’s behaviour.
But behaviours vary tremendously across the animal kingdom, and it turns out this is the key to understand how eyes evolved. In the lecture we will take a tour from the first animals that could only sense the presence of light, to those that saw the first crude image of the world and finally to animals that use acute vision for interacting with other animals. Amazingly, all these stages of eye evolution still exist in animals living today, and this is how we can unravel the evolution of behaviours that has been the driving force behind eye evolution.
Dan-E. Nilsson is a professor of functional zoology at Lund University in Sweden. He is a fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and several other academic societies. He is the head of The Lund Vision Group, which is an internationally leading centre for comparative vision research. He has co-authored the popular textbook Animal Eyes published by Oxford University Press.
Is that supposed to make sense to anyone who can’t read your mind? -- CC@chrystyns, welcome to the forum. We encourage a variety of points of view. It was unclear what your questions were implying, so, hope to hear more from you.
Oho! Look: crayfish in the water have a lot of legs and tentacles, what made them evolve so much? Who do they come from? Why did they appear? What is the choice here, if they walk in the water ?! And their vision? How did he develop in them? Accidentally? How? And the fish? They also have eyesight! All a result of evolution and the most important process of "natural selection" for best survival mechanisms.
Vision started as a chemical light-sensitive patch and over time evolved greater sensitivity and complexity.
You see, the two-parent system (a result of natural selection) assures variety in offspring. From this variety the most adapted organism lives to have offspring of its own … and the species do not only survive, but are better at it.
This is why it took some 13.8 billion years for the evolution of hominids and then into humans as one of the most complex organisms that walk the earth.
But for all our intelligence, many other animals can outperform humans in many ways, because that is how they evolved their own survival mechanisms. Everything you see is a product of evolution by natural selection, including today’s global warming which may kill all humans but will select some insects as best adapted and fit to survive. Man may inherit the wind, the insect may inherit the earth!

The question was put to you - what needs to be done to address climate change and avoid it’s worse effects and you have not been able to answer.
It’s one thing lecturing to others about the science of climate change but in doing so you come across as a typical figure waving useless boffin when you can’t discuss solutions
That’s the point
With all the dishonest back stabbing going on, actually honestly understanding the problem is the number one prerequisite, before any positive change can happen…

Nov/Dec 1995 published a nifty little eye opener in “The Humanist: An Essay Concerning our Weather, Peter Miesler” - look it up. With follow up in 2005 and 2015 and now it’s an even bet if things are still “normal” enough for me to write one for Nov/Dec 2025.
Went to our 2008 Colorado’s State Democratic Convention to lobby agains the Red McCombs monstrosity at the top of Wolf Creek Pass - where I’ve had the most impact in helping forestall Red’s rape of a large Rio Grande source waters watershed. Oh did I mention doing battle with Anthony Watts and winding up creating WhatsUpWithThatWatts.blogspot.com
Cc's Hall of ShameMy “speciality” has been confronting climate science “skeptics” with fact based constructive debates and it usually follows the same trajectory. I call out false claims, statements and question their reasoning with explanations, arguments and an assortment of relevant links to further authoritative information so people can learn about these issues for themselves.
If they return it’s with a round of bluster and distractions that morph into ad hominem attacks on people, either me, reporters or scientists. Never any indication that new information was read and assessed, let alone absorbed. I respond with more facts and reasoned arguments, they respond with final insults and slammed doors not to be heard from again. Leaving me with Virtual Debates where I strive to document the dishonesty that too many others seem to pardon.
These are the same talking heads who are astro-turfing media outletsdemanding public debate, but who steadfastly run from our debates. Tragically for our country and future these self interested folks only seek theatrical lawyerly debates dedicated to confusing and obscuring.
When it comes to Serious Constructive Debates - that is, dialogues that respect the confines of truth and honestly representing others and the evidence - these showmen are nowhere to be found.

You are scooting around the question. Your thoughts. What needs to be done to avoid the worse effects of climate change?
Oh honey read your set of question again #347415, you were brow beating me for my bona fides, not much but it’s what it is. If nothing else I know the topic better than your average bear.
We should have learned to make due with less.
If push comes to shove and you want honestly, honey we are past the point of being able to mitigate Earth global heat and moisture distribution energy. We’ve handed that duty over to Earth and she works on a different time scale, and doesn’t care about the fall out.
Can you make a loaded freighter turn on a dime?

You roll out the boffin response again.
You can’t come up with any policy or any direct action individuals should take to force govt into implementing these policies and making the change.
