Okay so it’s the Christian Nationalists, he’s blocking for, that is much much worse than it has any right to be. God actually talking to you, telling you what to do, the hubristic insanity, Lordie, lordie.
Keep in mind @thatoneguy that there are many christians who are also very angry with what christian nationalists are doing to their religion.
And the connection is certainly not flimsy. Denominations are splitting in two with half going with the more liberal and compassionate side and the other half branching off into anti lgbtq, anti science branch. Check out this LINK
Good points as always coffee. I quit the Methodists because I could see the way they argued about the gay issue exposed how religion is not designed to reflect on what’s true. It claims truth and punishes non-belief. Exactly what Trump and those like him do.
It counts for much more than this discussion. January 6 was driven in large part by christian nationalists.
And this minority is a very large minority. It’s not like 2%. A Pew research poll puts it at 45%. This is the largest threat to democracy we are facing. See HERE
Most U.S. adults believe America’s founders intended the country to be a Christian nation, and many say they think it should be a Christian nation today, according to a new Pew Research Center survey designed to explore Americans’ views on the topic. But the survey also finds widely differing opinions about what it means to be a “Christian nation” and to support “Christian nationalism.” …
The word “minority” gets thrown around without much context. 70% of people want sensible gun laws, but we don’t have them. Recent elections have had “record turnouts”, meaning we are finally cracking 50%. I’m not sure how scientific these numbers are, but I hear a small group of people can affect major change. So, what does oneguy mean by minority? Where does he get his data? Who knows?
Self-identification in this case is important. If you are willing to tell a pollster that you think this nation should be run by Christians with Christian values, you probably live like that’s true. If you look at the history of polls, 100 years ago, questions about atheists or gays weren’t even asked. Ideas about “blood” were written into law, like how “Indian” you are or how “African” or should you even take a transfusion from a different “race”. Marrying outside of your religion was a scandal.
WRT the last linked poll. It’s always a red flag when “white” shows up in a label. Racism is certainly a part of this christian nationalism. Also, the poll mentions how our two-party system forces greater significance on a “minority”. That’s certainly an unintended consequence.
CitizensChallenge already pointed this out but Christian Nationalism and those who believe America is inherently Christian are not necessarily the same thing.
That’s true. Who said they were? The CC post also points out that 2/3 of Americans think churches should stay out of politics, yet there are churches that tell people how to vote.
In the US, there is supposed to be a wall between church and state.
Since even the billion dollar mega churches don’t pay taxes, we have laws. The Laws
