This book hits on both sides of the title of this section of forum. A secular Jew addresses how Christianity could leverage what it does well. He starts by noting that less religion has led to greater political polarization. Did the tension of Christianity and Pluralism hold us together in some wsy that has been lost?
I kept looking for statements that support your comment. Rauch is quoted extensively and very little is said to support alternatives. Most of the article’s words are spent discussing Biblical support of North and South during the civil war. Not much of a comeback.
What I didn’t add, being a little lazy, is that either side of the Civil War section are lengthy Rauch quotes. He’s quite fairly represented, with little more than the comment, “that take didn’t age well”, as commentary. The last couple paragraphs offer some possibilities that Rauch might be wrong, but I wouldn’t call it scathing.
