Awaken to reality!

I’ve been a Star Trek fan all my life and I’ve never dropped it. I write fanfic, go to conventions dressed as a Betazoid, collect Star Trek stuff, and often watch Star Trek (like every day). I even married someone who is a Star Trek fan- he says he’s a Vulcan, but I think he’s more like K’Mpec. A hobby like that can never be work.

Apparently not if you still think learning new things leads to happiness. So far no one has really shown otherwise or really responded to what I said.

He likely didn’t know about sensation and how much the brain makes up or how our emotions aren’t genuine, so he operated on ignorance.

His line about choosing to live despite meaning is just avoiding the question by shrouding yourself in the illusion of meaning and the like. Either way his philosophy has nothing to do with what I’m saying, but still he chickened out at the end about meaning and the world. They all get close but don’t want to take that final step into the abyss.

Sounds like naivete, you don’t know enough to render that empty and meaningless. Like I said before I’ve read and seen too much to really go back to happier days.

Don’t remember. It’s hard to have any genuine emotion when you’re pretty adept at being an observer to yourself and the world around you. It’s like constant meditation in some sense, always aware of being aware.

But as already quoted there is no genuine emotion as it’s just programming by society.

This is another post talking about the sense delay being 6 seconds, though it doesn’t seem entirely convincing: https://www.quora.com/What-would-it-be-like-if-our-senses-are-delayed-by-1-second/answer/Bushy-Van-Eck-1?ch=10&oid=11229544&share=0206239e&srid=hwLJ3G&target_type=answer

I have given you a link to an expert in that field. I told you to check it out.

What is the physical difference between a live beetle and a dead beetle? Nothing!
The difference is a change in arrangement of the identical parts. Give that just a moment thought.

Chuckle park😂…

I love to learn. Always have. Even as a kid I loved school. College was even better. So maybe you don’t understand what brings some people happiness or you suffer from depression. Then again, it could be because I’m an only child and learning is fun for me.

Our emotions are genuine, due to chemical reactions in our brains. External stimuli triggers a reaction in our brains, causing various emotions. That is genuine and real.

Maybe to you what my husband and I enjoy is empty and meaningless, but not to us. See there is a lot behind Star Trek. Gene Roddenberry was a humanist and there are a lot humanistic values build into at least the first two series, if not more. It encourages people to better themselves and society. It also gives hope. There is also Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations (IDIC) and a whole lot more. Either you’ve never watched it or you missed the humanistic messages.

Sounds to me you’ve been traumatized, even have some depression, and probably should see a therapist. I’ve seen a lot too and experienced a lot, more than you will ever know, but now that I’m away from abuse and trauma, as well as have had therapy, I’m a happier person. Am I happy all the time? No, I’m not, but for the most part I am content with my life, despite wanting parts of it to improve still.

The live one is generating energy. That’s a big difference. You actually make his case by saying we are only the particles that exist in our bodies, that there is nothing emergent once those particles start pumping fluids and activating nuerons.

I remember my days in a small town, driving my first car back and forth, like American Graffiti. I was happy. Then I went to college because everyone said I should. It was work, some things I learned made me sad. Then I got a job, because I was told if I want to eat, I have to. I longed for the days of freedom and laughter.

Some days, I thought I would be happier if I was just gathering my food and living simply. Maybe. Or maybe that life is also complicated and happiness isn’t found in things.

I think you are confusing memory acquisition, with awareness of the moment.

Oh and how much does Bushy actually know about brain function, I see his resume goes in a different direction:

You’re almost there.

Evidently not, and that you don’t understand that still leads you to think that learning is enjoyable. People who usually say that haven’t read enough.

Emotions are not inherent in that we don’t innately like the things that we do, that’s influence from everything else. Even then based on that article about pleasure it’s based on what be believe something to be, meaning it’s not the thing itself but the story we tell. It’s sort of like lying to yourself in some capacity.

I know the general philosophy behind it and how naive it is.

Doubtful based on the responses. This is the price of learning and questioning what you know.

Seems like inthedarkness has all the answers, and no answer.

Seems to have a subtle rudeness as well.

So, coffee, read more, learn more, and you’ll see how unenjoyable that is. Learn that learning is terrible. As long as you’re happy, you’ve haven’t learned.

Pretty much yeah. Much of my life would be a lot easier if I didn’t know what I do now such as learning that no matter what we aren’t really in the present.

Or that my emotions are genuine and inherent to me but I only feel the way I do because society made it that way. It’s pretty much being programmed like a robot

That was sarcasm by me.

I know, but through that you made my point for me. So far no one has really been able to address the links or the quotes, just insisting they aren’t so doesn’t mean anything.

That’s simply not true, and a look up through these comment show that ideas have been presented, links that go into more details about various ideals. But you don’t choose to engage with that. Nothing left to work with.

Just asserting it’s true doesn’t make it true. My not making a thorough refutation of it, doesn’t make it true. Someone completely ignoring you doesn’t make it true. An article in Sciencedaily doesn’t make it true or false.

Okay, A theory of microtubule catastrophes and their regulation
Okay write, I looked it up. First thing I learned was this microtubule catastrophe is,

(A) Dynamic instability, in which abrupt transitions occur between growing and shrinking states, is an intrinsic property of microtubules that is regulated by both mechanics and specialized proteins.

Meaning it’s part of normal function, not a literal massive destructive event. Going through that study, best I could, I found no mention of microtubule’s influence on brain process speeds.

Here again it sounds like you are making claims, that aren’t supported by the sources.
Out running one’s headlights.

" … . But what causes this axonal communication to slow down in the first place? …"

No answer was offered.

I’ve explained why your links are mistaken.

Like I’ve said, especially with emotion and desire, these things aren’t you. You only feel and want those things because society told you so. You’re just a robot being programmed. Even falling in love is something we do because society pushes that, same with feeling emotional about kids, everything. You have nothing you can call you or your own.
