I wonder if people in the street around the Globe Theatre were prattling on about how terrible it is that men were playing women’s part, like, right there on stage, in front of the children. I’m guessing not.

That’s just how it was done during Shakespeare’s time. Women weren’t expected or wanted to do much except have babies and take care of the home.
