12 Things To Do On Election Day - ourgratefulkitchen

Working people in the US have every reason to hate the Democrats and their legacy of continuous war, unending attacks on social services like health and education and their complete inability to provide a progressive alternative to the Republicans.

Hard to argue with that.

Although the legacy of war belongs to Republicans - think of Cheney/Bush and their war for profiteering that we gleefully headlined “Shock and Awe” and that was guaranteed to turn terrorism mainstream.

But then, guess Biden was a big booster of that war too, . . . along with the liberal media, . . . - well except for Democracy Now, but who listens to those lefties, . . . . . . .

I'd be interested to know how long you have been reading the news, or anything, or if you read books, of anything other than watch the next suggested YouTube. Every year, it's a bipartisan bill to increase military spending. The news barely mentions it because it's nothing new, nothing unusual. Republicans are a little better known for bad diplomacy and getting something started, other than that, they are very similar. The best I could say for Democrats is I've heard more reasonable military strategies and improvements in weapons from them.

But the Democrats attack social services and health and education? Where did that come from?

Did you see the giant book that McEnany handed Leslie Stahl? It was supposedly their health care plan. Meanwhile, the Democrat plan has been stalled in the Republican Senate for 4 years.

So…the Democrats are attacking social services… Democrats passed the Affordable Care Act, a part of these “social services”, all Republicans opposed it, they have spent 10 years trying to take it to court to get it shot down and won’t be done until it is shot down in its entirety, they have been promising “repeal and replace” for 10 years now, yet they still don’t have a “step 2” to that plan, Trump’s comprehensive replacement he’s been promising for 4 years is simply “something great” and the …Republicans… are the party of social services? The party that wants to get rid of Social Security? The party which fought the expansion of Medicaid? The party that can pass a $3 TRILLION dollar relief bill to give huge handouts to corporations, but can’t bring themselves to give anything more to the people unless they ALSO get to take rights away from those people to sue their corporate overlords? We’re talking about the party which coined the terms “welfare mom”, “work requirement” and “right to work”, right? The REPUBLICAN party? The party that fought against expanded unemployment benefits and went to court to reduce access to healthcare during a pandemic AND the worst economic downturn of our lives. The party which uses “socialist” as a dirty word. THAT’S the party that’s fighting to protect social services? I’ll have whatever the hell you’re smoking.

Chip chip chipping away at workers hard fought gains since the 1930s with thier neoliberial policies. The Democratic Party has stopped being a party of the working class a long long time ago. They are part of the corporate duopoly as the partys are here in Australia. What are you smoking?

Anton, This may not be the right forum for you. Making broad statements about corporate duopolies and name calling like neoliberal might be a conversation opener, but at some point, you need to review some history, name some people who did specific things, connect an action to a result, stuff like that. A question like “What are you smoking?” is not an argument of any kind. I like to keep things lively, but I also like to use my role as moderator and keep things civil. FYI.

Lausten ’ did you say this to Widdershins when he ended with - " I’ll have whatever the hell you’re smoking"?

Just keeping it fair

I didn’t notice that W said that. I have noticed, over the last year, that he provides information, sources, personal experiences and lengthy explanations of his stance. You don’t do that. So, yes, I’m being fair in judging the quantity of his quality versus yours.

Well, let’s have an instant replay. :wink:

Besides, he does pack an awful lot into a small space.

@widdershins
So…the Democrats are attacking social services…

Democrats passed the Affordable Care Act, a part of these “social services”, all Republicans opposed it,

they have spent 10 years trying to take it to court to get it shot down and won’t be done until it is shot down in its entirety, they have been promising “repeal and replace” for 10 years now,

yet Republicans still don’t have a “step 2” to that plan,

Trump’s comprehensive replacement he’s been promising for 4 years is simply “something great”

and the …Republicans… are the party of social services?

The party that wants to get rid of Social Security? (GOP)

The party which fought the expansion of Medicaid? (GOP)

The party that can pass a $3 TRILLION dollar relief bill to give huge handouts to corporations, but can’t bring themselves to give anything more to the people unless they

ALSO get to take rights away from those people to sue their corporate overlords?

We’re talking about the (GOP) party which coined the terms “welfare mom”, “work requirement” and “right to work”, right?

The REPUBLICAN party?

The party that fought against expanded unemployment benefits

and went to court to reduce access to healthcare during a pandemic

AND the worst economic downturn of our lives.

The party which uses “socialist” as a dirty word.

THAT’S the party that’s fighting to protect social services?

I’ll have whatever the hell you’re smoking.

{Widdershins, please trust me, you don’t want to be smoking that shit, just say’n}

Greg Palast makes an interesting point that the Dems in charge of
states which purged ethnic minorities and the young from the electoral
roll, didn’t reverse the shenanigans. He thinks the reason is the
Dems’ fear of a black party.
