"During his acceptance speech at the Republican convention last week, Sen. J.D. Vance, the GOP vice presidential candidate, praised Donald Trump’s call for “unity.” But this year, Vance endorsed a new book co-written by a far-right conspiracy-monger that calls progressives “unhumans” and claims they are waging an “Irregular Communist Revolution” against American civilization.
The book, Unhumans: The Secret History of Communist Revolutions (and How to Crush Them), was written by Jack Posobiec and Joshua Lisec. Posobiec is a well-known alt-right agitator and conservative media personality who promoted the bonkers Pizzagate conspiracy theory. Lisec is a professional ghostwriter. And their book professes to be a history of communist and leftist revolutionary abuses over the decades—but with a twist. They claim, “For as long as there have been beauty and truth, love and life, there have also been the ugly liars who hate and kill.” And these “people of anti-civilization” have always gone by different names: communists, socialists, leftists, and progressives. The pair contend these folks—be they the Bolsheviks of Russia or the BLM activists of this decade—are better called “unhumans.” . . . "
How do you figure that? Could it be you don’t like other humans?
Oh, yes! I’m really a Betazoid with the Federation of Planets. I don’t just play one. If you believe that, I have some swamp land for sale… In Washington D.C. I’ve been trying to drain it for years.
The book is rather horrifying, just from the summery.
Some Americans, mainly MAGA Trumpsters, see other Americans as enemies.
This is what Trump has brought to the political landscape, chaos, so that he can walkway with the spoils.
Not that I know of, but if I had amnesia, how would I know? As far as I know, it’s not getting harder to tolerate other humans nor viewed as enemies. There are some humans who intolerable, but not all. As far as enemies go, are you talking about Russia or China?
I’m not convinced it is more than a minority, maybe 10 to 20% that want to expell fellow citizens. That’s enough to turn an election but small enough to control. And it’s but sides so there is some cacelling out.
Tolerance though, that’s always been hard. It’s the propaganda that makes it easy, a lazy choice.
Gone are the days that Americans looked abroad for the biggest danger to the nation. A new CBS News/YouGov poll shows that most Americans (54%) now think that the biggest threat to their way of life comes from domestic enemies.
There is bipartisan agreement that the nation’s way of life is most threatened by individuals who are already in America, with 53% of Democrats, 56% of Republicans, and 57% of Independents each choosing that as the most significant risk. One in five Americans (20%) believe economic forces present a greater challenge, while slightly fewer (17%) chose natural disasters or viruses as a key concern.
That’s a lot. I know most people agree polarization is a problem. I was thinking more of the people who think others should be killed or deported. But I guess you didn’t say that.
Oh please! How can you be uninformed about hatred for all humans among humans if you have not seen it. This information is based solely on your observation. Others don’t necessarily see what you see. That’s not uninformed. That’s a difference in POV.
Good point. All of these polls, and the news of riots and protests and counter protests are real, but what do they actually reflect? Do they tells us that people can’t live together and we should go back to nations that are run by one religion/one skin color? Does it tells us we need walls and guns and fear of each other? Or is someone trying to sell us fear so they can be the ones who own a private island?
I truly believe there are people trying to gain power by attempting to instill fear in us. If we succumb to this fear they win, but if we do not, we can build a more desirable future, but we cannot be afraid of each other just because they jumped into a dangerous river to get here. After all, many of us had ancestors who jumped into the ocean and came here. Mine date back to the pilgrims. Whether it be by boat or swimming, the waters are not necessarily a safe journey. Immigrating is never safe and none of us are native to this land, except maybe the Native Americans. Fear leads to racism. Racism can lead to genocide and often does. I see this insanity in the dotard’s campaign and it’s not a good thing, BUT they are subgroup of the U.S. and not the whole of the U.S.
“Most Americans believe the biggest threat to America’s way of life is other people in the country and domestic enemies.”
Yeah fear is an interesting thing. Some are you afraid of and enraged by women wanting equal rights and sovereignty over their own body, and the right to make their own reproductive choices.
While other Americans are enraged and afraid of people who like buying assault weapons and threatening other people, with their intolerant certitude and believe that God is in their back pocket.
