Why all the fuss over public healthcare?

And don’t make me tell the other stories of heroics by blacks in WWII, like the Tuskegee Airmen, etc.

Oneguy said, “Insurance serves a reasonable purpose; you pay to be protected from bigger unexpected costs.”

TimB: Quite right. So how about paying a NON-PROFITIZED entity for that protection, so that we are not being exploited by those who would get wealthy off of our need for healthcare? Are we paying the extra money that goes to their profit coffers, because they give a superior service? I don’t think so.

I don't feel exploited because insurance companies make money off me.

Oneguy, good for you that you can be so zen and understanding while profiteers make money off deciding what healthcare you will get. Personally, I would like to pay less, and cost my country less and get coverage that I need, not coverage that the profiteers decide I can get.

Blacks only made up a small percentage of the US military in WW2. By the time the few black combat units saw action the war it was mostly over. That doesn't mean they should not be respected but they never made a big contribution in theater. Actually they probably made a bigger contribution in the factories.

If no blacks whatsoever were allowed to serve it wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the war.

Oneguy: “If no blacks whatsoever were allowed to serve it wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the war.”

TimB: It probably changed the outcome for the Jim Crow Southern white boys of K-Company. And for the crews of all of the Bombers that the Tuskegee Airmen protected, never losing a single Bomber to those whitey Germans.

Oneguy said: “…China is a totalitarian dump with public and private options. And most health care in China is of poor quality.”

Ok. I also heard from someone, who I believe, that it is common in some cities for people to literally crap in the streets.

Still, somehow, this totalitarian poor quality dump, CHI-nah, controlled the COVID-19 SO MUCH BETTER than our T rump lead effort. And in our system, with an idiot as DOTUS and CinC, we have States bidding against each other AND against the FEMA, to try to get life saving gear for frontline health workers.

Wow. Like you know enough about it to be capable of offering a serious assessment.

You talk for affect - no actual substance behind it.

I suppose the squirrels in your garden are safe, though.
The squirrels and I are self-insured.

Good for you and your squirrel friends. However, you are still affected by the millions who don’t have coverage during a pandemic, because they likely will be conduits for the more expansive spread of the virus. Hence making it more likely that you will catch the virus. (Come to think of it, maybe your squirrels, too. We know cats can get it.)
