who's your pick?

“some Bernie supporters who didn’t accept the will of the majority of Democrats, and decided instead to boycott Hillary, and implicitly supported Trump.”

Implicitly supported or did not bother to vote?? The reality is her lack of policy for change her willingness to submit to wall st and her war record was a turn off for many people. Lots of people’s lives are not so good so when they heard trump say there is something wrong with America as opposed to the mindless mantra from the career politicians such as Obama and Clinton that America is the greatest without touching on its problems, it really resonated with people.

There is no doubt the legacy of obama is that it is his failure when in office to bring change when so much was promised when elected that gave us trump. People are pissed off with this system.

Have you seen this article below

It talks about the rise of far right Nationalist groups and their ability to coalesce. In particular, I bring to your attention these couple of paragraphs

These coalitions depend on the continued presence of grievances that directly affect people’s lives, particularly growing poverty even when working, the collapse of stable and safe social identities linked to work, the increasing instability of employment security, and the rapid change of local communities due to emigration, migration, collapsing housing affordability, and redevelopment initiatives that displace communities. These provide precise and urgent electoral rallying points.

They are particularly effective given that so many mainstream politicians ignore these basic grievances. In recent years, the lineup of politicians opposing the New Right – Hillary Clinton, the Remain campaign, Emmanuel Macron and Matteo Renzi – have been unwilling to even recognise these structural problems. This provided the New Right the opportunity to appear credible, simply by acknowledging them. They also appear to offer elegant solutions to these societal issues – all of which are based on a return to the “natural” order.

Today, Gillibrand left the race. So much for running a mate out of Congress who was accused of sometimes acting like a sex horn dog, without even giving him a hearing.

It has become apparent that the poll I cited the other day was an outlier, and is now considered invalid. So Biden remains solidly the leader, with Warren and Bernie lagging behind. Harris and Buttigieg are still getting about 6%. Even Yang was clocked at 3% in the latest poll. I’m afraid Marianne Williamson will not make the debate. She didn’t score at least 2% in enough polls. (So don’t expect much opportunity to declare “Groovy Man!” while viewing the next debates.)

“So Biden remains solidly the leader”

Not true

The Monmouth poll results, which I brought up previously are considered an outlier, even by the poll conductors. It was based on a small sample size, and is not supported by the results of all other polls except 1, (1 that the web cowboy above mentions).

I’m just relating the news.

I’m very glad Gillibrand left the race. I’ll never forgive her for what she did to Al Franken. Never!

I noticed TimB. Thanks for your words. I’ll be staying around and participating.

2 recent polls - not one. But all polls show trend that Biden is falling

That Monmouth poll was discredited. So there is only the 1 poll left, that shows Bernie, Warren, and Biden close together. All other polls have Biden leading significantly.

But polling now is still not particularly meaningful. Perhaps as the actual primaries approach, we will see some of the other candidates challenging those top 3.

Lex, I think that without that scandal, and Gillibrand’s running him out of govt, Al Franken might have become one of the leaders in the Presidential nomination race today.

"All other polls have Biden leading significantly.:

Yes but all show he is trending down

And I wonder who did the discrediting

OK I’ve taken a look at this thread and it’s clear to me that Player, you in particular need to rein in the insulting rhetoric. You’ve been warned before. Further rule breaking can lead to banning

I joined CFI a few weeks back looking for intelligent discussion and some reasonable debate on theology, atheism and skepticism.

Given the rules here and the nature of the group I figured the discourse would be better than that on Twitter.

I left, logged out and stopped alerts last week because I felt personally ridiculed and attacked by a couple people here, Player in particular.

I’m sitting here on my phone, in online discussion, because my mom is in the dying process. I’m interested in discussion that engages my mind, since there is nothing else I can do as I literally sit here, 6 feet away from her, as she slowly passes.

But if I feel like I am getting pissed on, personally, I can find other places online to spend my time. I don’t have the emotional bandwidth to deal with that crap right now.

I hate to think even the worst offenders on here would act the way they do towards you if they knew your situation. The image in our heads of those we chat with on here never shows the others in situations like you are in, so don't take any of it personally. (Besides, how can you take childish insults personally- whoever is dishing them out is never worthy of an emotional reaction.)

Not that it makes much of a difference, but your are a highlight of my time here and I bet that your humour, intelligence and style are appreciated by a majority of the other too.

So stay here and occupy your mind or go and do what you need to do. We’ll all be here when you return, and those who matter will have your back.

A suspension of parliament in the UK to push through a no deal Britexit. Just goes to show you how much the rich really really love a democracy

Correction. Earlier in this thread, on a tangent I said that 20% of our oxygen comes from the Amazon rain forests. I have since heard that the oxygen that is manufactured there is used up by the biomes there. Thus statements that the Amazon rain forests are the “lungs” of the Earth, may be overstated. Idk. But that does not lessen the tragedy of all of that carbon dioxide being released from the burning and the death of species.

BTW, the Trump admin is now opening half of the US’s temperate rain forest (the largest in the world) to logging and mining.

Yes hooray for capitalism - new markets to target new resources to exploit new catastrophes in the making all for the profit motive.

I also caught that article that said that the DNC shut down a called for single issue debate by the Dem Pres Candidates on Global Warming. They were afraid that those who will advocate drastic actions, would negatively influence the Pennsylvania vote (due to the amount of fossil fuel business there.)

That is a bad move, imo.

Not many football fans here, but let me tell you, sometimes a team that plays in such away as to avoid losing, (instead of playing to win) they wind up ---- LOSING.

Debate now to be on young turks

Lex where are you? Can you support your claims regarding Sanders supporters
