When It's Time to Go

I don’t want to derail the thread into ww2 discussion but the reasons we got involved in the war were economical. We weren’t trying to save the world from fascism or any other boomer hollywood nonsense. Nice had nothing to do with it.

Yeah, we conquered the world in a nice way instead of a mean way.
I agree that was sarcasm timb. The devil is in the details of "conquer". We could have conquered the world with better irrigation, democratic processes, participatory socialism, including women in leadership, and using science to understand sexuality instead of sticking to Biblical traditions, but instead we bombed the things we didn't like. This pattern began in 381 AD and continues to this day. It is cyclically a failure, it destroys resources in its wake and blames others for the problems it causes. We could survive as a species for at least 200,000 years and leave a decent planet for something else to evolve or we could "conquer" it all and leave mostly rubble.

There were a lot of reasons we got into WWII, including the facts that Japan brought us into the war and England agreed to give us all the top secret technology they were working on, most importantly radar, that they didn't have the manufacturing capacity to build. But no, we weren't white knights or anything.
But no, we weren’t white knights or anything.
Rewrite history, anyone?

Were we the horrible people who were putting millions of jews, gays, and retarded people in camps and making them slaves, starving them, medically experimenting on them and gassing them to death, men, women, and children?

Were we the horrible people who viciously raped and murdered the people of Nanking?

Were we the monsters who initiated the hostile and deadly takeover of other countries in an aim for world domination?

No we were the monsters who ended the war, they started, for good and all, with the nuking of 2 Japanese cities.

Yeah, we did some bad things for good reasons. They did a lot more bad things for bad reasons.

Must we always repeat the truism that nobody is perfect, everytime the fascists try to expand their power? Must we say that there are good people on both sides? Or the corollary that there is no one perfect on either side?

Is that truth? I don’t think that an implication of false equivalencies between evil and imperfect comprises truth.

Holy s***, we're lucky most people don’t share your bizarre values.

Just to be clear, you think these

better irrigation, democratic processes, participatory socialism, including women in leadership, and using science to understand sexuality

are bizarre?

The only one i thought might require some fleshing out was participatory socialism.

What is bizarre is oneguy being so wrong-headed as to think those are bizarre values.

But then I suppose he is committed to 3rd Reich type values, and considers that to be the norm.

The way this thread is derailing into fascist hate and social doom shows that 60 is the time to go and any attempt to extend life beyond 70 must be prohibited. I did enjoy listening to my grandma ramble and felt no need to throw her over the cliff even though she was way past 80. She was reminiscing, taking me down memory lane to the good old days of the USA.

any attempt to extend life beyond 70 must be prohibited.
Florida retirees, and all recipients of Medicare and Social Security, Vote for Biden/Harris if you want to live another 4 years. The tRump lovers say your time is up!!!

What disgusts me more than the utter lack of morals and empathy exhibited by some people here is the fact they feel no compunction about spewing it out as though it’s acceptable in a civilized society.

I wish I didn’t come on here right before I take off for the weekend. Ugh!

Have a nice weekend, 3point.

Engineering skills like better irrigation are beyond any “values”, but the rest are garbage.

but the rest are garbage. -- oneguy
I didn't say values were the way to conquer the world. So, I got it, democracy, science and equality are "garbage" to you. Thanks for being so clear about what I've suspected all along.

The US after Sree and Oneguy run for office.

yipes.

Could make it a double feature and add https://www.sparknotes.com/lit/flies/

The US after Sree and Oneguy run for office.

I will never run for office but if I was a political leader, I would ban anything Scandinavian.

The new QANON’s would be glad to have you run for office. All the stupid things you have done in your life will not matter. In fact, they may think it makes you more qualified.

Idk about your problem with Scandinavians. Is that your next group to exterminate, after you get rid of the old people?

@thatoneguy I’m a major fan of life extension, however the fear mongering of the COVID-19 pandemic has relied on mortality rates, and most of those stats are in high-risk groups, of which the elderly area big part, and those stats are being used as leverage against much younger and less vulnerable people to control their behavior, and IMO it’s very unfair.

Yes those in high-risk situations need to take special care not to get infected ( with anything ), but their situation doesn’t warrant the massive social controls and business lockdowns of the rest of the population who is far less at risk. It’s just plain wrong.

So please don’t blame the elderly. They’re pawns in a game of biopolitical football. Blame the fear mongers who cherry pick the worst stories to sell news, or were borderline germaphobic to begin with and have bought into the enforcement of germaphobic behavior. Together they drive political demographics that have resulted in measures that have destroyed literally millions of lives and livelihoods, along with our overall quality of life.

It has to stop. So be upset. Even be angry. But most of all, be smart about it. Lobby with businesses to push back against the sweeping lockdowns, fines, and social controls. There are coalitions of concerned business out there. Volunteer. Contact them and show your support. But please, the solution isn’t to endorse a cap on lifespans. That’s a whole Logan’s Run scenario.

So saving the sick and elderly humans does not "warrant massive social controls", you say. Does it warrant the rest of the people, to JUST FRIKKIN' WEAR MASKS??? JUST FRIKKIN WEAR MASKS!!!

IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK OF EVERYONE’S PRECIOUS FREEDOM TO DO WHATEVER THE F#CK THEY WANT REGARDLESS OF THE RISK TO OTHERS???

@believer it is not fear mongering. This virus is VERY deadly and masks, worn properly, is what drives down the transmission rate and slows it, so that the death rate isn’t as high. In order to survive this virus and not have 3 million deaths before the end of the year, we must listen to REAL science. That means listening to Fauci and others like him, not the dotard and his ignorant cronies. There’s nothing political about this virus or mask wearing, it’s a health issue.
