What this world needs is Free Unrestricted Capitalism?

I had a conversation with a Swedish socialist some years ago. He said he was a high school teacher. He told me that he objected to the idea of mandatory accounting in the schools on the grounds that the math would make capitalism seem logical. But I do not hear capitalists suggesting mandatory accounting either. I made my contribution to the subject years ago: http://www.spectacle.org/1199/wargame.html If accounting had been mandatory since the 60s could the sub-prime mortgage business have played out the way it did? psik
I have non-farcically suggested, in the past, that education in the practical applications of free markets, be taught universally in grade school. (I think that associated ethics would need to be taught, as well.) But it would, I think, level the playing field, to some extent for the masses, who, now, tend to wind up being taken advantage of.

Oh man I love this topic. I have to be careful.
The US was like no other State before or since.
It had the timing and groundwork to create the most manipulative, exploitative system the World has ever seen.
If one can objectively look at what is hidden behind the facade of normalcy that pervades in this country you can’t help but be blown away by the implications that
run off in several directions. This all has to be taken into context with the amount of wealth the US can generate.
If I had to sum it up, who but P.T. Barnum, that quintessential American, could have said it any better?
That’s all you need to know about America in a distillation.

Maybe, but the Barnum thing stuck, and he ran a circus, which is fitting.

Maybe, but the Barnum thing stuck, and he ran a circus, which is fitting. Yeah. I was, mostly, just being cute. What do you think about the primary tomorrow? I just started a thread on that if you're interested in replying.

A 60 Minutes expose, tonight, highlights your point. There were some undercover reporters posing as shady prospective customers (to US law firms) appearing to want to basically launder money. Almost all of the lawyers they talked to seemed open to the prospect, although one flat said he was above what was being inferred, and another situation one lawyer said they would be obligated to report anything illegal. The rest seemed eager to continue exploring working for the proposed customers. It was also said in the 60 Minutes piece, that the US is 2nd only to Kenya as the easiest place to hide dirty money.

I was looking for a place to park this one and it seemed this was as good as any.
It was nice seeing Darron’s face again, I miss his participation, you folks would have heard a lot more Maddy stories were he still with us.
Alas, life is a series of hello’s and good bye’s, It was nice to have gotten to know him a little.
But now back to today and all the revelations regarding Sinclair Broadcasting - if their planned merger goes through,
it would be another hit against a sane future. I’m working another ‘data dump’ of articles pertaining to Sinclair,
but with the Bluegrass Meltdown in a couple weeks, and the State Democratic Assembly this coming week,
time is at a premium. I’ll share when I can.
For now I want to share this tidbit regarding another pillar of right-wing exceptionalist mentality, the Sinclair Broadcasting Group
who are moralistic to the umpth degree when it comes to telling others how to live and think.
They themselves are a amoral, avaricious, power craving and ruthless as they get.
Oh did I mention self-certain and leaning towards totalitarianism?

Well that’s convenient, top of a new page.
Let’s try having a discussion, Mike, Beltane, take on Sinclair’s defense, lets have some fun. :cheese:

Try and go back to the beginning, is what I sometimes must do. Controlling the news goes back to Germany before WWI. When a good wage was a dollar a day, Germany sent an agent to America who spent 5M per month. He bought newspapers and radio stations. Started German-American societies. He almost kept America out of WWI. By the time of WWII American had passed laws that we could not again get involved in any wars in Europe or support any wars in Europe. Thus, we created the Lend-Lease Act. We got our butts kicked by Germany in the economic and media wars of both world wars.
After the war we developed several departments that finally grew into the departments we have today. We sent secret agents around the country to get TV and radio stations to use syndicated news. Those stations who refused to signup were put out of business by the IRS in these clandestine operations.
The news is part of the sociological warfare controlled by our government. The thinking is that the government did not want countries like Germany to ever again to be able to control a mass number of what Americans were thinking. Then they added anything that could be to sociologically hurtful to American needed to be controlled, like a nuclear spill for example.
The mechanics of the system was to control the news in syndicate form. And that happened. On the boards of the big TV and syndicate companies was a member from the NSA who represented the government. There is a panel of three hundred people who could stop news from being published. Each president gets put on the list. When Obama was elected. I went to see if someone had died or who they removed to make room for Obama. I could not find the list. So, either the program was stopped, or it went underground. I just have not had the time to research the issue.
CC, it is best not to take companies at face value. Howard Friedman controls the Global News Service of the Jewish People and he is a board member. It is obvious that Sinclair’s views are going to be pro-Israel.
Hope this helps.

Why am I not surprised, no supporting resources offered. Oh yeah, it’s all fake, except for your opinion.

It is economic Darwinism.

Well your supporting evidence would be history. Read it. The Nazis were masters at propaganda, even to the extent MikeYohe described. And I've often said, the Nazis of Germany may have been defeated but that didn't end Nazism, which lives on to this day in movement conservatives. What the modern day righties have learned is that they have to cloak their nazism in patriotism to the US and the bible. On an aside, I believe the current CEO of Sinclair, before he took over for his dad, ran a porn company, or rather they bootlegged movies and sold them to mom and pop video stores.

 Interesting tidbit there. Why doesn't it shock me. It's so much easier to dictate morals to others, than to live by them.
