We should be talking about what's happening to americans

The title of this thread is what Cory Booker said this morning on Meet The Press. Will Democratic leaders finally get it this time? Will they speak to the people that Hillary called “deplorable” and Biden called “MAGA”? Speak to their pain? Trump won because he said was going to bring down prices. How’s that working out?

If you know anyone who is asking who is harmed by Trump’s cuts, send them to my latest blog.

There’s a heck of lot more involved here than, the sloppy use of “deplorables” - for J.F.C. what about what they were calling liberals on “Christian” radio stations. About the down right vicious disenfranchisement of our right to considered real Americans.

The Right Wing war footing was not put in place by Hillary, she was a victim of it’ and she was also too self-absorbed and self-serving to successfully confront and deflect the attacks. And too self-serving to recognize she was moulded into enemy one and for DNC success, the power mantle needed to pass on to someone else.

What about the great Obama who could organize like a son of gun to win, but then got so wound up in being Mr. Cool and the party that was going around him - to recognize what the other side was thinking. Instead of putting everything he had into helping Democrats stay in power, stood by as GOP ran ahead with a deliberate strategized calculated brainwashing campaign, FOX faux news et al, selling doubt, demeaning facts ,. . . .

Again too self-serving to spend the political cash on building a solid grassroots organization full of people who understood the Faith Based issues, and understood the importance of science and rational fact based argumentation - as opposed to circus debates and emotional melodramatic calculated misrepresentations. …

A historic snafu in need of revisiting

Back in 2004, during the Vice Presidencial debates, the question of the moment was: America’s Right to “Go It Alone.” Cheney proclaimed: “America will not allow anyone veto power!” Senator Edwards (and by extension the Democratic Party) could respond no better than to mumble meaningless platitudes.

Why couldn’t Senator Edwards invoke the words of our United States Declaration of Independence? The last line of the first paragraph reads: “… a decent Respect to the Opinion of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to Separation.”

Our Declaration of Independence and its signers granted no one veto power, however they did recognize a higher arbiter of correctness and a requirement that they be able to justify their actions in the eyes of the world!

Why couldn’t the Democrat articulate that?
Why have we so easily misplaced our respect for the rest of mankind?

~ A historic inspiration worth recalling ~

Our Founding Fathers were all men of passionate, deeply held and defensible beliefs.

Yet, each one knew they needed the knowledge and experiences of their ideological opponents.

They allowed themselves the luxury of respecting their opponents and they appreciated that there was something to be learned from most everyone.

They had the humility to understand that no one of them held absolute insight.

And they had the integrity to be able to alter perspectives when new information justified it.

Shouldn’t all of us reacquaint ourselves with this principle?

This is not my country anymore. Yes, I was born here. The thing is, my ancestors came fresh off the one of the Mayflower boats. Fought in the Revolutionary war (I could join the DARs if I wanted to, but have no desire), supported the Declaration of Independence, etc. etc. Even married into the indigenous people, actually, they married into my ancestor’s family, but still… This is not what they fought for. None of it is and we are in a Constitutional Crisis, thanks to the Orange Menace and his cronies. We must fight against what they are doing. While I wish for it to be peaceful, the way it’s going makes me feel, that is I fear, it will lead to and end with violence.

The “what about” play is exactly the problem.

true 'dat

Well, he was busy reforming health care, something badly needed, something that helped everyone, especially the working class. The Democrats job could have been to sell how that actually them, instead of distancing themselves from it.

Forget about all of that. They had their chance, and they didn’t care. That’s why they’re done.

You miss the point, Fundamentalists Christians had a declared war against progressivism, and rational fact based dialogues about existentially important matters, and experts and rules & regulations that helped keep people safe, etc., etc…

I mean we’re talking about people who actually believe God is talking to them!!!

There’s no normalizing the difference between what the Alt Right has done and printed and said that comes close your “deplorables” fiasco - besides the Alt Right Insurrections are behaving deplorably towards our countryI

  • but then it all normalized now, even destroying 250 years of USA’s principles doesn’t deserve any self-righteous indignation??? and what about USA’s pluralistic ideals and balanced government and “Democracy” even if an imperfect one - why do you make it sound like it’s just another day at the park, here in the year of our Lord of Ego 2025?

No, you miss it. By miles.

So just another day, time to get ready to celebrate USA’s 250th, that will be interesting to watch.

Don’t suppose, you could define what you perceive I’ve missed by a mile, that all we have to blame is Democrats snippy attitude towards the Alt Right?

That we should not confront the tough questions?

Is not MAGA’s lawless mentality and contempt toward USA government oaths of office and other governmental agreements along with long standing ideals not deplorable ??

Where were America’s foundational principle defended in these past few decades. How did the GOP steam roller that appointment of Kavanaugh, because Trump wanted to see a little more anger and drama and the Dems were simply stunned into forgetting all about defending the longstanding standards expected of Supreme Court Judges -

So what point do you see in all this?

You are increasing your logical fallacies lately. One point is not the same “all we have to do” or a statement that we shouldn’t also do other things. There’s nothing else to say to you once you go of on these illogical rants.

The state of our world an illogical rant. Got it.

I thought that’s what you said. That a lot of people are ranting illogically. I’m trying to tell you that you are one of them.

Here’s Yuval Harari’s take on it. In the first few minutes.

1:45 – The problem is not with our nature (my comment: well, there are problems with human nature, but it’s our nature, so what higher level of judgment can we use to say there is something wrong with it?) Yuval says the problem is with our information, “if you give good people bad information, they make bad decisions. They make self-destructive decisions.”

He continues, pointing out that we have lost the ability to talk and listen to each other. It’s one thing that ‘both sides’ agree on. Reasonable conversations are what hold together democracy. That type of conversation dismantled the oligarchies and dictatorships of our history, but now we are confronting a new enemy, the control of information. We confuse “information” with “truth”. Information doesn’t create wisdom. Information connects, usually through fictions.
He has ideas for how to deal with it.

But only for people who hold Democracy in respect.

“Information” are the building block we use to build our understanding and awareness of the world upon.

“Truth” is meaningless without have a specific framing - which is why, to speak truth as some end all is foolish.

How about a little more attention on the concept of “Honesty”.

… excuse me for continuing the rant

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/06/30/how-americans-see-their-country-and-their-democracy/\

Oh and let me get this straight,
are you tell me it’s rant territory to recognize (and to be appalled and terrified) that we the American people just trashed America’s Constitutional Government under the rule of law?

Please explain.
You think our government is doing fine and dandy, and that I should take comfort, the guardrails are working??? Where? How?

No, I’m not telling you that. I’m telling you that is the third time in the last hour that you have made this logical fallacy. I’m going to start giving you warnings about being a troll if you persist. You are bringing up points that don’t address my posts and then claiming I’m making a point that I’m not making. It’s baiting. It’s cross-posting. It’s argumentative for the sake of being argumentative. You can have all the opinions you want to have, but you can’t tell others that they are wrong for not speaking to the point you want to make at the time you want to make it.

None of that was about what has happened to American that enabled this fix we are in?

Here this is another example of what is happening to us. It is not off topic, this is where we are at, case in point.

Feb 24, 2025 #CNN #News

The United States joined Russia to vote against a UN General Assembly resolution condemning Russia’s war against Ukraine in a stunning shift from years of US policy.

The topic is about what is happening to people in their daily lives. You and I have very little power over UN resolutions. Condemning Russia doesn’t have much to do with the price of eggs. If you want to talk about UN resolutions on Russia, start or switch to a different thread.

thatoneguy complained about you doing this to him. You do it everywhere and with increasing regularity. You had a warning last December, so this is warning #2.

In case you forgot, this was the previous one

Good find. I’ll keep the party going by pointing out that younger people everywhere find democracy less appealing..

There is absolutely no indication this will change.

Just like the sheople want it - “Don’t ask me to think, just tell me what I want to hear.”

Yeah, I fear you are correct, But something else you can take to the bank is Trump and his Vandals will destroy American’s government and our lives will turn into a horror show. Yippy!

The title of this thread is
We should be talking about what’s happening to americans

The US delegates at the UN represent our national interest - they reflect the consensus of this country’s “democracy.”

I did not write about influencing that vote, I simply pointed out that Americans seems just fine with us switching sides and becoming a dictator Putin enabler.

But you want me to ignore that the will of the people (whether via brainwashing - or honest constructive debates that demand fidelity to known facts.) permeates our politics?

In what world?
Dorothy Shea was appointed by Trump. Trump was elected by 49% of the voters, many influenced by a few millionaires, who are less than 1/3 of the adult population. Are you saying our electoral system is functioning properly? I say it’s not, so your question is poorly formed and lacks proper context.

Everything is always horrible for you. Most people don’t feel that way.
