Hi guys, I’ve been out of the forum for awhile but thought I’d come back. Lots of good conversations.
The thing that bugs me about coverage and commentary about Trump is that on the one hand, every other story/post is about how stupid Trump is, literally. And we’ve all heard him. He truly is not smart.
And yet every other other story is about Trump doing this, and Trump doing that (currently Venezuela and Greenland for example). I never hear anyone, especially these so called “in touch” pundits, express the idea that there’s no way he’s coming up with any of this. He’s just not that smart. The best thing they could do is make him irrelevant by constantly driving home this fact. He’s just the dumb patsy, not unlike George W.
Why is this?
Dumb or not, Trump is an ignorant madman, without limits and closed to reason, acting as a bully and as a Mafia boss.
Greenland, Iran and so were obsessions during his first mandate.
You are right, some people have nourished theses obsessions, but the strategy he is using is his own.
What makes you think the strategy is his own? He’s not that smart to have “a strategy”.
An effective one, may be one.
He has the strategy of a business man, mixed with the one of a maffia boss, with the mentality of a bully.
It is him, and nobody else.
But he backs off when strongly talked back to.
Trump is a moron about most things but he is smart enough to do what he’s doing.
Remember, what he is doing is not that impressive to begin with.
On that topic, I always laugh at the dorky liberal obsession with intelligence. You don’t have to be that smart to get things done in politics. In fact it’s better not to be that smart, because smart people are less confident and less willing to take risks.
You give him too much credit. He doesn’t have a business sense either, he failed over and over in business. Anyway, yes I do think liberals are way too focused on being “smart”. Makes them seem elitist, which unfortunately too many are. But Trump, nope I can’t imagine he even has the smarts to do those things. He’s the perfect puppet for those who ARE smart enough and know how to play him.

Until recently Trump was of average intelligence. He is now obviously entering into that diaper-wearing phase of metal decline that Biden was in. But intelligence was not really important in his campaign.
Trump won by having tons of charisma and a “never say die” attitude - which goes much further in politics than being smart. I don’t think there is some secret GOP puppet master using Trump. The closest thing to something like that would be AIPAC, but that’s not unique to Trump since they have a lot of influence on most US politicians.
