Speed of light, a Question, a Thought; Why and How?

You must be aware that the different elements emit EMR (light) at different specific frequencies and all frequencies propogate at the same speed. That tells us that frequency is not a factor in determining the speed of light. You also must know that the speed of sound waves is not determined by frequency but by the medium through which the waves propogate. Sound waves are not objects or particles.

Waves have no mass. Waves do not accelerate from a rest state to a final speed. Waves are simply a disturbance in a medium and the rate of propogation is a characteristic of the medium. The problem that many people have with accepting that EMR is a wave in a medium is that they do not accept that there is a medium.

The only force we know well is displacement. All matter is composed of fermions. One property of fermions is that two fermions cannot occupy the same space at the same time. In order for an object or particle to interact with other objects or particles one must displace another.

For those who accept that we live in a mechanical universe (composed of fermions) all “macro” physical phenomena are the result of displacement and that includes sound, light, gravity and magnetism. Phenomena at the molecular and atomic scales have not been investigated from a mechanical perspective; it is doubtful that we will ever have the ability to observe such phenomena in the detail required to establish displacement as their root cause.

Displacement of what? By light, gravity and magnetism? What do they displace at the ‘edge’ of the cosmos?

And bosons.

Light, gravity and magnetism are the manifestations of the displacement of particles. EMR (light) is of course is a wave (displacement of particles) in the aether. [I use the term “aether” because it drives those who subscribe to particle physics nuts.] Gravity is the result of objects “shading” one another from vibrations in the aether creating a “low pressure” “shadow” between those objects. The higher “pressure” all around the bodies pushes (displaces) the objects together. Magnetism is the circulation (displacement) of particles by aligned atoms. It presents similar to a pump or axial fan. Thus the appearance of “poles”.

We won’t know until we are able to observe the edge of the cosmos. Do you know for a fact that there is actually an edge?

Bosons are imaginary particles required in particle physics to satisy the mandate in particle physics that everything, whether it is actually a thing or not, be considered to be a particle, whether it is actually a particle or not.

Per Wiki: “Whereas the elementary particles that make up matter (i.e. leptons and quarks) are fermions, the elementary bosons are [under particle physics rules] force carriers that function as the “glue” holding matter together.”

In other words, bosons are not matter. They are a convienence usefull for tidying up non-particle phenomena in particle physics.

Question; Are massless particles really true particles or are they mere “quanta with a value”.

Particle physics is not concerned with what a phenomenon actually “is” but rather how it is observed to act. One must remember that we observe effect and then assign cause. Particle physics follows what Newton said about gravity: that we don’t really need to know what it is as long as we know how it works.

Per Wiki: In physics, a quantum (plural quanta ) is the minimum amount of any physical entity (physical property) involved in an interaction. In other words the amount of cause required to get an effect. The term photon, for example, is the amonut of EMR required to induce a reaction in a receptor.

We usually measure gravel in terms of tons. Gravel is not a thing; it is a term refering to a bunch (technical term :wink:) of rocks, usually of a defined size. In this context a ton is a quantum of gravel. Of course a ton is not a physical thing but it is useful in civil engineering to consider it as one.

My fun term for aether particles is aetherettes. The standard model of particle physics does not recognize an aether, and so it cannot recognize particles of an aether. If it did then it would have to recognize that EMR is a wave and not a particle which would negate the entire focus of particle physics.

Indeed the photon “particle” of particle physics is imaginary.

The only real-life applications I have seen for bosons is to explain how 10,000 angels can dance on the head of a pin and how a spirit or soul can inhabit a physical body. What is missing in the standard model is the way that fermions and bosons interact. If we had that we might be able to understand the life/non-life (spirit/physical) interface.

You probably should wait until then to decide whether or not to add that designation to your CV. Collaborators are not always treated well by those adhering to a competing idea.

What, you’ve never heard of wave-particle duality? Ahhhhhh! Photons are your imaginary particles. You’re right. A photon is never a wave. I misspoke. Light is. As imaginary as it is particulate. No less.

didirius: 186,000 miles per second, What if light was a machine that had a throttle built into the machine? The solar system is a bunch of things going around a big mass thing. if you notice the orbits are somewhat egg shaped. As the things go around the big thing gravity keeps them from flying away. as they move away from the big thing the speed of the orbiting things slow down, as the go back toward they speed up. In the process of all of this slowing down and speeding up something amazing happens the kinetic force of mass pulls the big thing toward one direction going that a way. Gyro kinetic thruster. most people don’t think of this as really happening but a simple device proves this does happen. Perspective to big and small, What if light works in the same way as the solar system or atoms? As the light goes faster the big thing in the middle is shifted to reduce the speed and visa-versa. thus one speed of 186,000 miles per sec. somewhat. There are methods of reducing the speed and increasing the speed of light so there is really no fixed speed just options.

The elliptical orbit is due to uneven distribution of mass in a dynamic orbit.

The things do not go forward or backward, they are always going forward but around a massive Big Thing (Black Hole?)

IMO the speed of light is the speed of quantum change. Any faster and quantum mechanism cannot keep up with it and the photon quantum action gets trapped, unable to complete its quantum change from coordinate to coordinate.

I have often wondered if we do not observe half of reality as it is quantized and there must be a break between quantumstates. That break would take 50 % of the quanta’s existence and it would be invisible during that infinitesimal duration of “quantum suspension”

Yes and that’s due to our sensory limitatitions. But with quantum I am trying to visualize the quantum mechanics. If Spacetime itself is quantized then there must be a transition from one quantum to another. This transition is called quantum suspension where the quanta and reality itself are suspended and not observable at all.

Note that when we look at a movie the film is quantized and even as we see the movie as continuous, in reality, we only see 1/2 of the entirety of the film. If we were to slow the speed down we’d see the flicker where the individual frames were being replaced by new ones.

If we could slow down the speed of a photon we’d see it flicker as the quanta were being renewed.

This may just be fantasy, but it’s fun to contemplate…image

Quantum Physics is based on one object looking to be in two places at the same time. When I took algebra the teacher showed how to make 1 = 2 this was done by multiplying A times O - or Apples times Oranges, as we all know that is not the thing to do in math. But this is Quantum Physics - lying math at the highest level.
What appears to be in two places at the same time is the tips of a humming birds wings. in the middle is clear. only because it is moving to fast to observe. logic must say the same thing and object can not be in two places at the same time only appearing so. because of the speed viewed allows the middle moving to fast to be observed. But whatever one wishes to believe is true is true. and the best thing to do is agree and walk away. thanks Tom

The speed of light is simple the fastest a particle can travel through time and space if it travelled slower it would loose its energy. Out side of time and space it maybe possible to exceed it if the medium is different but no one knows.The speed of light only applies to particles nothing else even comes close or has ever been observed. Until an object is found or created to travel at the speed of light it will remain that way.
I will also add that considering the size of the universe the speed of light is incredibly slow in the big picture.

I believe that in this spacetime geometry quantum happens at SOL and it is impossible for reality to renew itself any faster. Even quantum requires time and is therefore limited to its maximum renewal moment.
