Sarcasm: We're so much better off

Excuse me if I misread your words.

Then you have some very poor comprehension.

What part of: "This is about the relationship between ourselves and the knowledge we possess?"
Is incomprehensible?

You can refresh your memory with a CFI search on that term.

I understand that you used plural pronouns. The thing I don’t remember you saying so clearly is that it is about you (singular) and your coping mechanism.

All of our journeys do originate from within oneself. Don’t know what your point is.

Allow me, it is about more than “my” coping mechanism.

It is about recognizing and appreciating fundamental self-evident observations about our “human condition”. These, in turn, offer a rational framing through which to better understand our individual, and collective, struggles and goals.

Today we have crossed over into dystopia as we standby and watch petty brutes elevating themselves to God status on the evening news, at the expense of 250 years of our proud experiment that people could be free and govern their own affairs.

So please understand I’m not going to pretend that millions of Americans didn’t fail all they once stood up for. WE did. We reap what we sow, and we’ll never learn anything without recognizing our failures.

Trust me, I don’t expect that to happen, which is why I appreciate we are in a free fall that will end uglier than any of us dare to imagine.

The Physical Reality ~ Human Mind divide

Our bodies are the result of Earth’s processes, your mind is a result of your body-brain interacting with the world, your God’s are created from within your own body.

We can’t hope to understand our gods, or our own lives for that matter, without attaining a deep understanding of oneself. That requires taking on the reality of Evolution in a way all to few have.

It’s as self evident as AGW - sure we know, and it’s irrelevant.
You say all that’s my opinion, I say, look at the state of the world and the self-destruct stupidity of the current leaders this nation elected.

This is now less clear than before. Which “we”? Which “millions”? What did they stand for?

The Hollywood Nation.

The Me, Me, Me, Über Alles believers.

The people that embraced, or humored and dismissed the ugliest of American - an illiterate who can’t think beyond his own self-aggrandizement.

People who think there’s nothing wrong with owning slaves, and keeping ‘the others’ in their place.

The God Made Me Special and the world is there for us to consume and destroy if that’s what we feel like doing people.

The people who are all causal about the attacks on science, NIH, CDC, and necessary industrial and job safety regulations, OSHA, etc., etc.

People who don’t care to look at the other side of our blind Progress coin, don’t want to know about how we are damaging our life support systems - etc.

People who are too lazy to use the brain evolution gave us.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, what got us into this trap, the Too Much Is Never Enough people.

Okay. I do like movies. I went to a couple discos in the 70s and generally believed things would get better without me needed to put in much of the hard. I also started volunteering in college and never stopped. But, okay, I’m an American, I can’t completely separate myself from that “we”.

I’m an American too. I learned to believe in the principles we avowed; life, liberty, pursuit of “happiness” - blind justice, pluralism, America as the world’s melting pot, a government of checks and balances, a people who used science to improve their lives.

I remember walking up the steps of our Capital, I seem to remember nice old security guard pointed out the sign book, if I wanted, and offer some directions. Up the stairs and right through the doors to the spectators balcony. So casual, so free from fear and paranoia, '74 I believe it was. Now I imagine that walk and visit - military nation has arrived.

I got glued to the TV like any other red blooded American and I like movies too. But I always was the freakster, with a different perspective from most. I saw the God Father and walked out, wtf, great now the thug is going to become the new role model, sure a shiite, so it was. Later the first Star Wars movie, instead of the flash everyone else was getting off on, I’m thinking wtf, where does all this hardware come from? Logistically and logically I couldn’t make any sense of it - while others were loudly dreaming, this is our destiny.

Thanks to Hollywood, most everyone feels entitled to all the bling they can get, no matter how kitsch.

[recall the…] Golden Trump Statue, next to golden toilet.[/]

Now we have handed our over government to Hollywood Dreaming, guaranteed to a disaster for all of humanity and most other complex living creatures.

That’s the problem with so little appreciation for the difference between actual physical reality (that provides our life support systems) and the desires, imagination and dreams, that fill our minds.

And why, oh why do we find ourselves in this mess?
I believe it can get distilled to: Self-absorbed thinking coupled with self-serving actions.

Get it while you can, the MAGA boogeyman also wants to take away this satellite information. These threats are real and it is for keeps!

Oh, I’ve been wondering for decades: Can anyone explain what we are in such a rush to arrive at?

Or has that, in honesty, never been a consideration?

It’s aways been about me and now?

Why didn’t we want to learn that Earth was no longer the all powerful ‘enemy’ out to there, always waiting to get you in one way or another?

We became the masters of the universe, the Earth’s God.

But we insisted on continuing to behave like the instinct driven brutes that we apparently are.

While most all of us including big thinkers avoided absorbing the lessons of evolution, or understanding how evolution is reflected in our own bodies and what that means to my sense of who I am (or you) because they never seriously confronted the Abrahamic western obsessing with blind power and empire building.

Sure it produced all the modern marvels I love and enjoy, with more appreciation than most, but it came at a steep cost that we needed to rationally confront, but that we could never bring ourselves to. To our own detriment.

And this is now. This is no longer about saving the planet, or the society, or the Polar Bears, it’s increasingly about saving one’s own sanity in a time of increasing unraveling. Trump has set off a chain reaction that will probably end in our government fragmenting into whatever, with all the joys that’s going to bring us. Faust’s debt will be repaid, what any of us think of it doesn’t matter.

Not to forget, even good old American Civics got tossed out of our schools, …

Oh course I could be wrong and the “adults in the room” will rise to the occasion and stand up for America, and bring some sobriety to back to the Congress, and . . .

It’s just that history doesn’t exactly feed my optimism.

Off topic, but this is a good article. It is another example of diversity causing problems for society.

"Patriarchy is like a man, having his boot on a woman’s neck.

Feminism is a woman complaining about the boot.

Conservatives insist there wasn’t a problem with the boot being on the neck until the woman started talking about it. If she would just be quiet about the boot, there wouldn’t be a problem.

Male allies think there’s a way to talk about the boot being on the neck that appeals to everyone and doesn’t “alienate” those that would help remove the boot.

“Good Guys” insist that not all men wear boots.

Women with internalized misogyny insist they have a boot on their neck by choice and they love it! They insist something is wrong with women complaining about the boot.

The boot is never removed from the neck."

Who or which cause the trouble?

What deprioritizing civils lessons about our American government and how it functions, and that democracy requires an informed and engage populous. Now what do we have, millions and millions of consumer units that don’t want to be bothered to think it through, (take it away Morgan)

But we know that you’ve given up on honesty, and the need for constructive dialogue within a society.

All MAGA has for our society is the promise of a return to the same old destructive horrors that totalitarian thinking has always brought about.

This would be good topic for a new thread, but I can’t understanding what it’s doing here.

I’m not the only one here tired of your constant inability stay on topic.

Anybody want to make a thread about football? Lottery tickets? White picket fences?

CitizensChallenge will show up like clockwork with this Twilight Zone link.

You are telling us that diversity and DEI programs cause trouble.

I am giving you an exemple : Is the trouble caused by the diversity, by the underdogs fighting for their rights, or by the people who don’t see the trouble, negate the oppression and so ?

You can switch women by black, by LGBT or by anyone in an oppressed minority.

And you don’t think I’m sick and tired of your disregard, or is it oblivion, to the importance of honesty in discussions of existential matters.

Why aren’t you capable of grasping that?

Leave me to guess and I’ll conjecture your world is all about me, me, me so MAGA is all you want - Me? I appreciate there are others around me who have just as much right to be here as I do.

Why do you embrace strategic lying?
Because it gets you what you want?
Is that all that matters to your world?
Getting what you think you want?
What about how your actions impact others?

Oh and regarding your inability to appreciate the value of pluralism and diversity, take a gander on the wild side:

The difference between you and that guy is he speaks his truth. It’s not mine, I disagree with most of it, but I it’s consistent, it’s from his own thoughts and experiences. He doesn’t put a half dozen questions in a post. He doesn’t call people liars.

He doesn’t link videos about octopus armies

I see what you mean now, but this patriarchy stuff is too far off topic from what I was pointing out about civics no longer being taught.

True to form as always.

Oh the good old days, when politics was in the spirit of “loyal opposition”.

If the label fits

I’m a child of the intellectual enlightenment since 1955, born and breed.

Living an engaged and introspective life. Being confronted with meaningful questions and resolving them rationally was and remains integral to my growth and development.

That includes being able, and willing, to provide meaningful responses to questions asked - it is a cornerstone of how I deal with life.

In my world, there are fews things as painfully enjoyable is discussing a topic with someone who has more and newer facts at hand, explaining why my perceptions were mistaken, revealing unexpected aspects of the problem, . . . because of facts, observations, a, b, c, resulting in conclusions x, y, z, revealing new questions h, i, j. So stay tuned as new information is collected and digested. But, in the meantime, what does all that tell me/us about the big story that’s new. - the pageant of evolution and mankind … , thereby reaching new realms of detail and understanding.

Asking thoughtful questions is crucial!

Lausten, the way I read your lines, I’m insulting, rude and out of line for framing relevant questions - How could I possibly expect anything but hostility and rudeness - is that it?

Well, you see I was raised and then lived within a tough love kind of environment. I was a working teen. Dependent on my being able to earn a living and satisfy others’ expectations. My skilled laboring world (culinary arts, framing carpentry, family) were tough taskmasters. Mistakes bring consequences that are permanent.

Lessons better be learned in a hurry, if one wants to thrive. Part of that growth process is failing oneself and blowing it. Bringing it on oneself, and getting one’s butt kicked as a result, figuratively, verbally, job consequences, occasionally literally getting one’s butt and more kicked in. Smart one’s wake up wondering, what was I thinking, where did I go wrong, what can I learn to avoid this next time, etc., etc…

Questions are a part of that.

I believe asking the questions is absolutely valid and ethical, even if uncomfortable. In truth I don’t care if MAGA guy answers me - because …

You see, I’m still idealistic about the common good within human beings.

I believe some of those question could have a hooks that burrow into the mindscape of, if not MAGA guy, others.

A question to itch ones scruples, a flashback in those wee hours of the night, when sleep won’t happen, and our internal conflicts are free to reign supreme. I believe, we are all vulnerable to self doubt and self evaluation. So I will ask.

With apologies, allow me to correct that:

I ask this because their plan is nothing but vandalism and destruction of our function American Government, the Russians couldn’t have asked for better.

But I’m the bad guy for pointing it out?
