Listening to AI personas have a discussion between themselves is a new one for me. Seemed like the female voice was placed in an obedient role agreeing with the man - but that’s probably just me injecting.
“Being progressive helps me recognize privilege—but what role has privilege played in making me progressive in the first place?”
That’s a good question. But also, why didn’t privilege make the Donald, and so many others, progressive? Why doesn’t education always drive someone to be progressive? Why doesn’t science cause everyone to lose their religion? Because they just don’t! Outliers are always present. What’s strange about the current U.S. politic is that the outliers are in charge.
If I had someone else’s genes …, I might vote for Trump - but then I wouldn’t be me so that’s a moot point. BTW, if free will is just an illusion, then all of these questions might seem moot. But they aren’t. Even without free will, if the masses are exposed to compassion and science most - not all - will respond in a positive (progressive) way. If the masses are exposed to fear mongering conspiracy theories then most - not all - will respond in a negative (populist) way.
Unfortunately, we (U.S.) currently have no way of constraining the crazy because of our insistence on free speech. It’s a real conundrum.
I thought that was a clumsy comment, the one about genes being different. I took it to mean a few genes, so I would be similar to me, but not exactly. The same goes for a few key moments in life, which I can’t really calculate which ones, but some bad experience or a different elder that influenced me, and I would be very different. Maybe.
That is so frustrating. There are many constraints on free speech. Start speaking freely in the wrong place and you’ll find out what they are real quick.
