From the WaPo. Nice piece

So, prejudice is justified? Classic.

Please let us do some history.

Around 1200 BC. in very ancient times, the Hebrews were nomadic tribes which became sedentary, created a state and a kingdom around 1000 BC. They were a state as many ones in the region, more or less successful.

This kingdom was divided and the two successor states were destroyed, the first one in 720 BCE by Assyria, and the other one in 586 BCE, by Babylon. The Hebrews were deported until Cyrius allowed them to come back in 586 BCE.

The Hebrews were no more a problem than any other people of the region.

Then the Romans came.

The Jewish had a messianic treat and posed a problem for 2 reasons,

  • their monotheism and their denial of the emperor divinity
  • their desire for freedom from the empire.

There were two great wars, in 66-74 CE and a second one in 132-136 CE, which was followed by the first exodus.

The matter with the Jews was that they did not share the beliefs and the customs of their neighbors, living in closed communities. When there were problems, they were the ideal scapegoats.

Christianism worsened their situation as they were denounced as the killers of the Christ and antisemitism became a standard. Jews were restricted in their activities, restricted to some aeras, expelled from countries and so. Their refusal of converting to Christianism was seen as a big black mark.

For them, the Muslims countries became a relative refuge. When Jerusalem was besieged by the crusaders, they participated to the defense and were massacred as the Muslims.

Pogroms were regular things. Plagues were attributed to them, and they were accused of killing babies and so. In fact, the Christians had a problem with the Jews, not because of the Jews, but because of their own prejudices and hate. Political powers used it as a diversion tool.

The situation did not change during the 19th century. But Zionism appeared as a reaction.

Antisemitism persisted as a political tool, used by some ultraright parties and governments meeting troubles. Russian empire was a specialist.

The Dreyfus affair in France shows the extent of antisemitism.

The genocide during WW II shows the paroxysm of antisemitism.

To say that the Jews are guilty of the troubles marking their history is to present the victim as guilty of their plight for being who she is.

The plain fact that Jews are distrusted by nearly everyone on earth proves that they are the reason for their treatment. Plenty of other unpopular minority groups lived in the regions you’ve mentioned but none brought out more ire than Jews.

You know, I really think you have a serious problem with racism and have bought into things that simply are not true. You need help.

That is beyond any rational demonstration …

Everything in this sentence is the result of prejudice.

Jews are not distrusted by almost every one. and the reasons they are distrusted for are shameful.

Not sure who you are talking about, but some of those groups were wiped out or continued to be oppressed. Do you not see the irony in your statements? You’re saying that because Jewish people have thrived, because their families supported each other, because they sought out education, and worked hard, and succeeded in business, that’s why people don’t like them. Who’s the actual problem in that story.

This may offer an interesting perspective.

Judaism and warfare

Normative Judaism is not pacifist and violence is permissible in the service of self-defense.[1] J. Patout Burns asserts that Jewish tradition clearly posits the principle of minimization of violence. This principle can be stated as “(wherever) Jewish law allows violence to keep an evil from occurring, it mandates that the minimal amount of violence be used to accomplish one’s goal.”[3][4]

During the 2006 Lebanon War leaders of the Rabbinical Council of America issued a statement prodding the Israeli military to “review its policy of taking pains to spare the lives of innocent civilians”, because Hezbollah “puts Israeli men and women at extraordinary risk of life and limb through unconscionably using their own civilians, hospitals, ambulances, mosques… as human shields, cannon fodder, and weapons of asymmetric warfare,” the rabbinical council said in a statement, “we believe that Judaism would neither require nor permit a Jewish soldier to sacrifice himself in order to save deliberately endangered enemy civilians.”[56]

So who are the bad guys?

Amalakites?..

What race were the Amalekites?

Amalekite, member of an ancient nomadic tribe, or collection of tribes, described in the Old Testament as relentless enemies of Israel, even though they were closely related to Ephraim, one of the 12 tribes of Israel. The district over which they ranged was south of Judah and probably extended into northern Arabia.Sep 22, 2023

I didn’t say that at all. I just said that Jews stir up extreme dislike everywhere they have ever lived.

I know the reasons why Jews are hated and so does almost everybody in the world. It’s because they are subversive.

And exactly where is Israel a subversive presence in the Middle East? I thought that the friendly neighbors of Israel seem to have no problems with Israel.

Or are you saying that each individual jew is subversive and needs to be … ???

What on earth are you talking about? Israel has no friendly neighbors. Have you forgotten the nearly constant conflicts?

They are subversive in places where they are a minority. Jews don’t have to be subversive in Israel since they make the rules.

Henry Kissinger may have the best word on the situation:

Walter Isaacson explains that at a contemporaneous meeting of the Washington Special Actions Group, a government crisis task force, Kissinger grumbled, “If it were not for the accident of my birth, I would be antisemitic.” He added: “Any people who has been persecuted for two thousand years must be doing something wrong.”

I see you are very comfortable and confident with your beliefs. That explains why you are not open to other views.

This thread has turned too far toward a discussion on prejudice. I’m shutting it down.
