IOW, free speech is only allowed within defined boundaries. of truth. You cannot tell "fire" in a crowded theater if there is no fire. There are legal remedies to being victim of prejudicial treatment.
I do agree that the wealthy and powerful have the run of the show and that can only be addressed with restrictive laws, but of course raises the issue of inherent rights and freedoms. There really aren’t any rights and freedoms in the long run except as allowed by the earth’s environment itself. Natural selection is a transcendent causal dynamic. By natural standards humans are an invasive and parasitic species that will eventually kill their host, which process has already started. A fact that became abundantly clear on Jan 6.
Unrestricted Capitalism has completely skewed the economic market and trade fields. When unrestricted greed is allowed under the guise of freedom and rights imbalance will certainly result and ordinary people who must earn their living expenses always will pay the price, both financially and in freedom of expression.
This can be addressed by placing limits on certain freedoms in the naturally privileged, such as unrestricted incomes and accumulation (hoarding) of wealth. When unlimited greed is no longer an incentive, perhaps “reputation” becomes a treasured status.
In the US, the story of Henry Ford paying his workers sufficient wages which allowed them to buy the cars they built is a perfect example of a lasting positive legacy.
As as I know, except for Trump, all US presidents have strived to establish a positive historical legacy of being a “good president”, rather than the effort to acquire unlimited wealth. That should be the goal of all people in power. Don’t use the power to enrich yourself, but rather to contribute to the general welfare, leaving a lasting positive legacy as being the cause of the start of a productive thriving middle-class.

Those born with a silver spoon will be nursed, promoted and financed to push the crowd and take positions of power in the interest of the ruling class. It’s not an individual issue. It very much systematic.

That is not Capitalism, that is a responsible business model which benefits all and provides stability in the work force. That is the definition of a symbiotic relationship.
OTOH, the Capitalist right likes it just fine to have a large ignorant workers pool so that they can keep wages as low as possible.
Objectively speaking, indiscriminate slavery is the perfect model for a Capitalist (Autocratic) society. No labor cost at all, just food and shelter, like all other chattel. The Big Lie is that whites believe they are exempt from slavery. We are not. Greed has no prejudice, it is parasitic to all forms of life. But as history teaches us, that model does not work very well in the long run.

I wasn’t going to chime in, but I was born in Flint. Don’t say cars are worthless. You could say the same thing about cell phones. I miss picking up a phone and not worrying about the signal dropping. But, instead, people saw value, even if the value was just that it was shiny and went “bing”. But then they used that shiny thing to bring down dictators. Every technical advance is like that, it empowers people, and can be used to enslave them.

@lausten I miss the old phones too, as well as payphones, though cell phones are better than pay phones. The old house phones (we have a house phone, but it’s a modern one) were nice, because they had character. However, none of that, except for preference, has to do with free speech. Free speech isn’t the right to incite violence or fire in a theatre. Free speech isn’t what car you drive either. However, one has a right to say what they want up to a point, which is “fire” or inciting violence.

It is the misconception of the right that any taxation or regulation spells socialism or worse communism. They forget that there is a perfect middle ground, based on the concept of shared social services, i.e. Medicare for All, combined with Fiscal responsibility . Today the right doesn’t even recognize shared responsibility and wants only freedom to act as they please, ala Wild wild west. Everybody carry guns and if you don’t like something break it.
That is the Trumpian way, my way or the Highway. Note what happened to all that did his bidding. They all ended up in prison . Being bailed out by the boss is not redemption. It’s just more crime. And now the boss is going to prison. That is the Trumpian legacy.
Yet here you sit and complain about a new government that has been in charge for two weeks. What are you complaints against our new president? He is not performing miracles? C’mon “girl”, reserve your judgement, until some results can be shown. The new president comes from the working class and has served honorably under president Obama, one of the better presidents in US history.

President Obama has a good record concerning health care and so does President Biden. Quite often too, when we have a Dem president, the economy gets better, but when the Repugs are in, our economy crashes. That’s how it’s been with president long before FDR.

So Biden is as soiled as most every other politician, but not near as much as way too many others - Where’s your upset with the Republicans who have turned into totalitarians in front of our eyes? With a complete disregard for the concerns of others, complete disregard for physical facts, complete disregard for future consequences, vandalism is all they have shown us that they are capable of.
I can well relate to being disgusted with the Democrats, but there’s nothing else going. So we’re stuck trying to whip them into something better than they are. And the only hope there is is for their grassroots to get informed, rise up and start putting pressure on our politicians (and the public dialogue) to do what we’re asking them to and that they are promises us.
But, if they don’t have a million people people breathing down their backs, where’s their power? The left has nothing like the passion and engagement of the off the rails right - (yes, mob rule is off the rails! Complete disregard for all outside of your particular tribe is off the rails!)
Consider the alternative this nation has been drifting towards, mob rule, absolute disregard for facts, honesty, fair play, sticking to agreement.
Trust me I appreciate all your pissed at, but… there’s the pragmatic to consider. Be disgusted by the Democrats, but realize they are the only vehicle we have to impact the laws and actions of our government.
The awful truth is that we blew it, we have guaranteed that Earth, via climate change and it’s cascading consequences, will continue becoming more hostile towards human society.
