Gee, that’s pretty disorganised, when one considers some of the showers which have formed their own dysfunctional countries.
Pashtun: Seems so.They are an Iranian (Persian?) ethnic group, of about 50 million world wide… .They seem to be concentrated in a region called Pashtunistan., in Afghanistan, I suspect that may be where they want their own country.
My son was a military chaplain in the Iraq war. His jeep was disabled, and he was told to use local transportation in the Kurdish area. The Kurds were not allowed to have guns. The buses went from one area to another area. Timetables were useless. Saddam had wiped out about 5,000 of the Kurdish villages and killed over 200K fighting age men. When darkness came the bus would stop at a village. The busses would not travel at night. Many villages did not have restaurants or motels. My son would have to knock on a villager’s door and ask to spend the night. He said the people were nice and friendly.
The US has weaponized and trained the Kurds and they now have a military. Iraq has gotten really friendly with China. This is the hot spot where war could brake out by America back forces against China backed forces. The Kurds would be facing Iran, Turkey, Syria backed by Russia and Iraq backed by China.
The ball is in Israel’s court right now as to see what they will do. The Israeli election went good for the Kurds. Sadia Arabia will not want any Arabs working with Israel. And then we got John Kerry telling Iran to just wait and Trump will be gone in 2020. That guy needs to put in jail. This week Israel has been bombing in Syria. Maybe testing the waters.

Their territory covers most of Afghanistan and a lot of Pakistan. I don't think most of them really care about having their own country, they just want outsiders to leave them alone. They are almost like a stone-age people who know almost nothing about the world beyond their local area. I saw that place up close and it was...…….an experience.

Were you in the armed forces at the time? If so, glad you survived, physically at least. I suspect there may have been an emotional cost.

The 101 airborne. He served two terms. Humvee is correct. He told me the Humvees broke down a lot and troops would steal parts from other units. Sorry for the late response.

I think that’s hilarious in the context that Humvees are still being sold to people with more money than brains and no regard for the environment. Hope they break down often and expensively.
On the face of it they look OK for use in a dry country. I don’t suppose they’re armored at all? I thought they were a combination of a jeep and an APC. I suppose that’s what civilians were meant to think.
When I served (1968-70) I was in Malaysia mostly, where nobody was trying to kill me. We went into the jungle only on exercise. Never rode in an APC, never even saw one. We were sometimes transported in Hueys, which I loved. Helicopters are fun, and saved us weeks of walking through the hot, wet stinky jungle. I’m not convinced a Huey would be a good place to be if anyone on the ground say began throwing rocks at you. The vets I served with hated Hueys. I am NOT a vet . I served with a combat battalion as a medic, but joined on their return from Vietnam. Malaysia was considered a ‘holiday a posting’ ; families went with.
