Demause

Has anyone ever heard of Lloyd Demause or psycho history? I have taken a look at some of his works and it just smacks of batshit crazy to me. That parents use their children as “poison containers” to vent all their past “trauma” in a way that is outside them. They can’t be serious about this.

I’m not sure the Internet is really good for you.

I’ve noticed that too, Lausten.
Titan, why do you obsess with lunatics and fringe elements? You’d spend your time more wisely reading philosophy, science and literature.

Because there is some morbid fantasy with the mad and crazy, and partly some weird believed that I have some secret knowledge that people never knew. Makes me feel special (which I will admit now is pretty awful and sad).

Has anyone ever heard psycho history?
Hmmms, seems to me that covers great swaths of Imperial Colonial Western History

Then again self-flagellation has its tingles. :coolsmirk:

I just don’t know what to make of it. I’m not nearly skilled enough to tell the difference between what’s bs and what’s good. Or crazy and sane.

If you don’t want to spend time or money on books, here’s a good place to start. History of Philosophy begins in Greece, but I think starting at Hume is better, because it relates better to the modern world. Work back to DesCarte if you want, or further if it’s interesting. Or forward to Karl Popper, a lesser known name that greatly influence modern thinking. What you’ll find here is, when there is something unclear, there will be links to other opinions. You get stuck in holes in the internet that don’t want you to question the problems with their arguments.]

But the thing is that what that man describes is science. Not the maybes of philosophy

I suggest you read as many back issues of Skeptical Inquirer as you can get your hands on. Your public library may have them. It's the best way I know of to learn how to see through biblebabble, psychobabble, buddhababble and every other kind of belief babble. Center for Inquiry published Skeptical Inquirer and many books on skepticism. It sounds as if you would bebefit from a freethought organizqtion. If you tell me where you're located I might be able to find one for you. This will show you the archive and how to subscribe. http://www.csicop.org/si/archive

South Florida, although I’m not sure if there are any here

Did you just refer to Hume as "that man"? I link to one page, but it's an online encyclopedia with thousands of pages. If you want the "maybe", they're there. But you have to make some effort. You keep asking complex questions and get pissy when the answers aren't simple. Show that really care.

Why do care about him?

Why do care about him?
What do you mean why? Because those are the theories he made based on science. What difference does it make if I care about him or not?

The question is, why are you spending time with these questions? What are you after in doing this "research" you do? Why are you asking us our opinions? Are you trying to figure something out about people? Or are you not even really asking, just making a statement of surprise or shock?

I’m trying to find it what’s accurate, or maybe I’m just trying to make this guy be wrong so I can hold onto my view of the world and society.

You started with "they can't be serious". Sounds like you already figured it's wrong. I'm sure you're right. Move on.
