Respectfully, I think you misunderstand. I am a Christian, not a humanist.
For purposes of discussion, I am using the term āhumanismā in its most general definition, without any religious or non-religious association.
Humanism is a philosophical stance that emphasizes the individual and social potential, and agency of human beings, whom it considers the starting point for serious moral and philosophical inquiry.
Humanism - Wikipedia
or
One does not need to be a Christian to be generous in support of another human.
If the actions are identical the result is the sameā¦
I agree that you donāt need religion to be kind, but in such a circumstance, youāre still basically acting from self-interest. In order to fully value someone else above yourself, you need an inherently higher purpose or standardā¦and thatās part of what Christianity is about. Jesus said in John 13:34-35: āAnd so I am giving a new commandment to you now - love each other just as much as I love you. Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.ā
First, in nature , acting from self-interest is what keeps you alive to procreate and evolve. Ultimately we are all acting from self-interest. Thatās how we evolved.
Second, in nature, symbiotic relationships are more resilient to environmental pressures, each supports the other and both species benefit.
The symbiotic relationship between flowering plants and pollinating insects feeds 75% of animal life on earth, while producing a purely sterile Honey and Royal Jelly, that have beneficial health qualities.
IMO, if this naturally evolved relationship between 2 different species is not what Jesus recognized and taught as his perspective on how life should be led, then how do beneficial insects and bacteria behave in a Christian way?
If it were not for our symbiont bacteria all humans would die. Itās bacteria that keep us alive. The human organism is a micro biome in the greater macro biome of earth.
You and I are part of this greater biome, but ask yourself if you are obeying natural laws in the application of Christianity.
Personally, I am just now beginning to understand what the mind ābelieving anythingā is all about. Itās a personal hobby of mine.
Hello. An old, white, heterosexual, Southern male conservative here.
Paper qualifications: BA (History), 11B10 (killing people), MSc & PhD (Computer Science).
An atheist since the age of 14 or so, about six and a half decades ago.
Now watching the US in rapid decline, leading Western Civilization down with it, marked by the rise of authoritarianism on both the Left and Right, paralleled by the rise of the de facto rejection of the idea of objective truth ā conspiracy theories on the Right, post-modernism on the Left.
What happened??? When the USSR dissolved itself, I thought we had reached the āend of historyā, and that liberal democracy was going to be unstoppable. Wrong, wrong, wrong. If anyone here has suggestions that might help explain what happened, Iād be grateful to hear them.
Welcome back, doug.
I have a few complaints.
IMO, unrestricted Capitalism is undermining the entire concept of equality on which an economically healthy Democracy rests.
The ability to reduce taxation on the rich is a corrupting influence on the nationās economy.
How is it possible that a billionaire pays relatively less on taxes than a secretary?
Why should a person who actually works for his income have to pay a higher % of his income than a millionaire who has a passive income from interest on āsavingsā.
An example of the skewed situation unrestricted business practices can be found in the price of Insulin.
For years, a 30 day supply of insulin cost $300.00, a budget breaking price for elderly persons on SS and tantamount to extortion on a life sustaining medicine.
Under President Biden this outrageous price gouging was restricted to $35.00 and AFAIK, the drug manufacturers are still making a profit.
The Affordable Insulin Now Act is a bill in the United States Congress intended to cap out-of-pocket insulin prices under private health insurance and Medicare at no more than $35 per month.[1]
The bill was first introduced on February 25, 2022, by Representative Angie Craig (D-MN).[2] On March 31, 2022, the bill passed the House of Representatives, 232ā193.[3][4][5]
A version of the bill contained in the Inflation Reduction Act was blocked by Senate Republicans on August 8, 2022[6]

Moreover; COLA is calculated as a percent of āincomeā, which favors all who earn more than minimum wage.
Assume actual cost of living increases = $900 or 3% of COL.
Calculated as percent instead of actual dollar increase :
Total income p/yr 30,000 x .03 = $ 900 ( actual dollar)
Total income p/yr 150,000 x .03 = $ 4500 (actual dollar)
Difference per year ------------- = +$ 3600 (extra benefit)
This is not ācost of living adjustmentā, but ācost of lifestyle adjustmentā!
These are but a few examples of āunrestrictedā Capitalism gone berserk.

How do you know there is no such thing as extra sensory perception? I sometimes know things I have no conscious knowledge of or have ever learned. For instance when soneone said they were buying an expensive new car I said āMazeratiā. She said how did you know? I said I didnt Know, the word just came to my mind. Another instance when someone who is sick with lupus opened her mouth and revealed quite a few old (black!) amalgum fillings I knew instantly that the mercury poisoning fron those fillings was causing her illness. I looked it up and found that there was a link between the two.
You knew, or you suspected?
How many experiences and learning have you internalized? That is buried under your aware consciousness, but still interacting with your thoughts on a subterranean level, so to speak. Things you know without knowing it, and such.
Oh and arenāt āfinding a linkā, and āfinding the proofā two different things ?
No, that is a misconception.
If the brain has no prior knowledge of a thing it cannot recognize it. But it is a master at associating different bits of information in memory.
Therefore your brain had prior knowledge about the damage mercury can do and when you observed the blackness, your brain associated it with what it knew from mercury and concluded that the blackness was caused by the mercury fillings. No mystery!
But by your own admission, you didnāt know that mercury causes blackness. But your brain did know that mercury is a poisonous metal subject to oxidation.
Why do my old silver fillings look black?
The silver (amalgam) fillings that were used for many years contained a mixture of metal alloy containing, silver, tin, copper and mercury. As with many metals that are exposed to a wet environment they will begin to break down and oxidize, often times turning black.Mar 27, 2018
