Trump’s F.C.C. Quickly Targets Net Neutrality Rules

The assault on American values continues.
We’re heading toward a stratified class society, and these guys want to put the pedal to the metal.
I think the only thing they’ll accomplish is a meltdown.

Trump’s F.C.C. Quickly Targets Net Neutrality Rules By PlinytheWelder Monday Feb 06, 2017 http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump’s-fcc-quickly-targets-net-neutrality-rules/ar-AAmDRem?li=AA54ur WASHINGTON — In his first days as President Trump’s pick to lead the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai (https://www.fcc.gov/about/leadership/ajit-pai) has aggressively moved to roll back consumer protection regulations created during the Obama presidency. Mr. Pai took a first swipe at net neutrality (https://www.nytimes.com/video/technology/100000003569336/the-new-net-neutrality-rules.html) rules designed to ensure equal access to content on the internet. He stopped nine companies from providing discounted high-speed internet service to low-income individuals (https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/08/technology/fcc-fine-tunes-plan-to-subsidize-internet-access.html). He withdrew an effort to keep prison phone rates down (https://apps.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-322749A2.pdf_) In total, the chairman of the F.C.C. released about a dozen actions in the last week, many buried in the agency website and not publicly announced, stunning consumer advocacy groups and telecom analysts. They said Mr. Pai’s message is clear: The F.C.C., an independent agency, will mirror the Trump administration’s rapid unwinding of government regulations that businesses fought against during the Obama years. “With these strong-arm tactics, Chairman Pai is showing his true stripes," said Matt Wood, policy director at the consumer group Free Press. “The public wants an F.C.C. that helps people. Instead, it got one that does favors for the powerful corporations that its chairman used to work for." Mr. Pai, a former lawyer for Verizon, was elevated by Mr. Trump to the position of chairman after serving as a minority Republican member for the past three years. ... Mignon Clyburn, the sole Democrat on the F.C.C., warned that the actions would directly harm consumers. “Rather than working to close the digital divide, this action widens the gap," Ms. Clyburn said.
Obsessive self-interest vs. enlightened self-interest

This reminds me of The Oatmeal’s comic

My god. I’m speechless. Trump is even more cold hearted than I imagined.
