The GOP's massive tax overhaul is a monstrosity

And Republicans support it unequivocally. There isn’t one responsible, intelligent member of Congress among them.
“At the end of the day, Republicans revealed that their entire caucus is bereft of dignity, shame, honor, and any commitment to a single thing any of them have ever said in public about how laws should be made in the United States.
“Whatever adjustments Republicans made to pass the bill, the basics of this atrocity are pretty straightforward: It will permanently slash the corporate tax rate, even though American companies are swimming in record rivulets of cash profits. That rate may go up over time to satisfy the deficit hawks, but it will ultimately end up at a much lower endpoint than it’s at today. The bill will eliminate the inheritance tax, allowing denizens of Richistan to reproduce the Trump family dynamic of billionaire thieves passing their ill-gotten largesse in gigantic lump sums to their own shiftless children. To pay for this pointless handout to people with third homes in Jackson Hole, Republicans also eliminated or reduced a series of popular tax deductions and incentives almost exclusively for people that voted against them. The tax code has been weaponized."

For what it’s worth, I fell we should stop referring to the A-holes in Washington as the GOP. That is just being much too nice. With this tax bill the failed Govt. 101 and the American people. They are what they are and it ain’t grand.

At least some are starting to fight back.

This kind of thing is exactly what the US was set up to prevent.

Call it what it is, it is evil. Many people will die because those who already have more than they could use in 20 lifetimes want even more. They in fact want it all... This is the kind of tyranny that kicked off the War of Independence.

Just got through listening some NPR, it was refreshingly decent

All this is based on BS “trickle down” economics that have been proven to be be totally false decades ago. If they actually worked as promised then we would have seen the wealth gap in the US closing not expanding.
All crap like this does is give more and more to people who already have far more than their share and use part of their wealth to outright buy off politicians who then pass insane bills like this that destroy society while the rich take their ill gotten gains and stash it overseas in accounts it is very hard to even trace as we just saw with the paradise papers.

We don’t to wonder how this is going to play out, they did exactly the same thing in Kansas and it was a disaster.

Kansas is broke – but you wouldn’t guess it looking at its shining state capitol in Topeka. The imposing limestone monument, crowned by a shiny copper dome and limned with John Steuart Curry’s luminous murals, has just undergone a $325m facelift. What’s happening inside the state house is a lot less pretty, and may well foreshadow the far uglier battle looming over the future of taxation in the United States. Last month, Donald Trump’s two key economic allies, the treasury secretary. Stephen Mnuchin, and Trump’s chief economic adviser, Gary Cohn, unveiled the outline of Donald Trump’s much-trailed tax plan. The biggest tax cuts “in history" would slash taxes for business, simplify taxes for everyone else, and “pay for themselves" by stimulating economic growth, Trump’s fiscal duo claimed.
All of America is being bent over the table here by the republicans and trump... which is no surprise considering what a group of abusive freaks they are. It's no wonder they want to get such disgusting people like Roy Moore into Congress, they obviously have zero sense of community and concern for the welfare of others. Such a disgusting political movement... if you can call it that. It's more like a confederacy of perverts...

For anyone who’s even remotely interested in how this works, Noam Chomsky has laid it all out extremely well.

What complete a-holes the republicans are turning out to be. Chuck (Gr)assley thinks that most Americans don’t deserve tax breaks because they’ll just spend in on “booze, women and movies”.

As Republicans continue to sell the details of their tax bill, some are reaching for more colorful language to liven up complex policies that tend to put the average voter to sleep. Case in point: Over the weekend, Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) hashed over the plan with his home state’s largest newspaper, the Des Moines Register. Turning to the party’s idea of doing away with the estate tax, Grassley framed the current law as a hindrance to responsible saving. “I think not having the estate tax recognizes the people that are investing," Grassley told the Register in a story published Saturday. “As opposed to those that are just spending every darn penny they have, whether it’s on booze or women or movies."
Maybe that's what an overpaid corporate lobbyist masquerading as a public servant would do with his ill gotten money. Most people are going to spend what little they have on housing, food, transportation, education, day care, health care, etc... These republican a-holes are completely out of touch with the reality of most Americans. The only reason they get elected is the vast amount of money behind the conservative echo chamber. Grassely claims that heirs who did sweet f-all to make anything shouldn't taxed at all, while if you're working you're going to get screwed every way the government can come up without creating an outright revolt. truly revolting...

Maybe we shluld start referring to them as the GAP. In fact, that’s so fitting I think I’ll use it from now on.

Johnny was walking down the street when he came upon a crowd of people gathered round a street magician. How awesome he thought. This guy is out here trying to entertain folks and make them happy. But as Johnny watched he noticed the magician was actually making lots of mistakes, and the people started to boo. One person shouted, hey, you’re supposed to be entertaining us, helping us be happy. But you’re magic is so bad it’s ridiculous. After a while Johnny just walked away, but after a few steps he stopped and felt his back pocket for his wallet, but it was gone. He’d been robbed! A few others did the same, we’ve been robbed, robbed!
What’s my point? The crowd thinks the magician is out there to entertain and make them happy by amazing them with magic. And when he sucks, they complain about the magic! He couldn’t care less about entertaining them, but as long as he can keep them complaining about the magic he’s good to go. Because in reality, at the same time his assistant quietly weaves through the crowd stealing peoples wallets.

Yeah but listening to NPR news coming home this evening, everyone sounded like ‘wins some loss some’ next item, Franken.
The passive acceptance is terrifying. Do people really do so little thinking?
