Am I glad I followed your advise.
Have a listen to this live “outer world” session of “Nothing Personal”.
I never heard this particular group before, but they are truly “out of this world” !
Spellbindinggg!

I’ve listened to that too. I remember the first time I heard his solo on tee bag. I used to play sax professionally a couple lifetimes ago, so I have a pretty good sense of what I “thought” a sax could do…until Tee bag! And then Not Ethiopia. OMG I wish I could go back and listen to those for the very first time again.
Another phenomenal one, which features him all alone, leading to the tune, is Delta City Blues. A gd work of art.
Jean Luc P(icard)onty - I’d heard a little of his stuff but that video you linked re-ignited my interest. Great stuff. Reminds me of…you guessed it, Brecker…Itsbynne Reel.
Speaking of saxophone solos, One of the most beautiful romantic tenor solos I ever heard was played by Clifford Jordan on Pyramid by Horace Silver Quintet.
It is one of the most poetic musical statements I ever heard.
This rendition of Groovin hard by the Don Menza BB with Buddy Rich has a wonderful interlude by the sax section.
Spellbinding!!!..
I agree. Now you understand why I like it so much.
I went to this concert last night. I’ve linked some Peter Mayer before. This was in a church that has been restored and repurposed as a music venue. The sound is icredible. Both of the musicians mix in traditions with their music and talk about their personal experiences. Essentially, this is the future of church in my mind.
And for people who think they don’t like jazz. Try this on for size and soar among the clouds!!!
And the next track is “Before You Go”
