Rick Warren's Son Commits Suicide

There’s a fair amount of commenting online as to weather the son was gay, and killed himself because of his father’s disapproval. Some commentators seem to want that to be the case. :blank:

The article said, "Matthew Warren, the youngest son of Warren and his wife Kay, died after a long struggle with mental illness." Is that what they called being gay?

I wasn't commenting on your post, per se. I was commenting on what the article said. There are a lot of people, especially Evangelical types, who consider being gay a mental illness and that's how they "treat" it. That in itself might lead a person to suicide. I don't know whether there were other issues in this case.

Is that what they called being gay? Some no doubt do, but even if Warren does, its not evidence that the son was gay. No, obviously not. My point was that if he was gay such an attitude could have led him to suicide. I don't know any more about his case but what has appeared in the media. He might have been truly mentally ill and homosexuality might not have been an issue. We may never know what actually happened.

I've wondered the same thing, given Warren's vocal homophobia. Marie Osmond's son committed suicide, the family said he was not gay, although his close friends insisted he was. Since his death, Marie Osmond has had a very recent 'evolution' regarding the subject of homosexuality. Too bad it didn't occur while her son was still alive. I wonder if she will now admit her late son was gay.

But I wonder if she now admits (if only to herself) her late son was gay, which seems very likely given the statements from his closest (probably non-mormon) friends.
