Religious Indoctrination of Children and John Hudson Tiner

John Hudson Tiner has several books for children on various scientific topics. Unfortunately, these books are published by Master Books – a division of New Leaf Press – a religious publishing company.
I am reading a kid book called “Exploring the History of Medicine”. The book is reasonably factual and informative; however, every few pages Tiner inserts a commercial for God. For example, in the section on early medicine, Hippocrates says effectively “rest, keep clean, breath fresh air and eat simple wholesome food”. Then Tiner chimes in with “God has given the body the ability to heal itself if given time to work”.
The back cover of the book states: “The quality of life has improved dramatically in the last few decades alone, and the future is bright. But students must not forget that God provided humans with minds and resources to bring about these advances”.
The book is really good because it contains much factual material and the religious sections could easily be isolated and replaced with your own religions cult leaders. For example, simply remove “God” and replace with Allah, Ishtar, Zeus, Ra, Odin…… whatever. Better yet, give the book to Dawkins, have him excise the religious indoctrination sections and replace them with some of the magic of reality.

Hmm, as long as God can be easily replaced with “nature,” (which could be done in the parts you’re quoting), I don’t think it’s much of a problem. Of course, this would get more complicated when the all loving God gives us, say, nasty mutations that can turn cells into cancerous killers.
