Our dynamic Earth, Blatten Switzerland, case in point

Another interesting moment in Earth’s geology, and lesson in cascading consequences. The flood waters are rising.
Depending on the rock to ice mix, the new dam could be unstable.
Or perhaps we’re witnessing and new natural lake in the making.
There will be more material added to the “dam”.

Sucks if you are connected to Blatten, CH, that’s for sure.

A major landslide has just … completely (wiped) out the settlement of Blatten, Switzerland.

However, more landslides are likely, and now the dammed Lonza River has risen by nearly 10 meters (or 33 feet), flooding dozens of additional previously untouched structures up to their second story.

Today’s video will discuss the ongoing situation through the perspective and analysis of a geologist.

I spent the summer of '76 below Sustenhorn, at Susten Pass.
