Fantastically expensive and hard to handle, the substance holds the key to a holy grail of science. And experts at Cern now know how to transport it
As the Cern scientist Barbara Maria Latacz told Nature: “We are trying to understand why we exist.”
Nothing else.
So it was fishing.
A Rorschach test of sort.
Why your upset with my cynicism?
The only framing within which this project makes any sense,
is a framing that totally ignores everything that is happening to Earth’s life support systems and global society.
“The challenges of moving Anti-Matter.”
You were wondering what people thought of it.
I come at this from a human benefit / environment costs “framing” - in a time of rapidly changing significant, heck literally existentially threatening weather disruptions, not to mention civil cohesion disintegrating, etc…
Why don’t the funders of Cern think about that?
It’s not their concern.
They are slaves to progress,
the technology owns our souls at this point.
That’s worth asking about.
Once again highlighting our amazing ability to compartmentalize, distract and dismiss - especially when fat paychecks are involved.
You say “my issue” with supreme contempt - when it seems to me coming to grips with our human condition and the body vs. mind struggle remains as unresolved today as it has been for millennia. That seems like a crying shame to me, because I know it’s not that complicated, or magical.
I bring it down to its most fundamental and that enrages you, then you pile on diversions and misrepresentations and we never got to any actually good-faith digging down into what I’m talking about.
It’s too beneath you and your libraries full of learned words? Why I ask?
Because I dismiss your claim of understanding Evolution? I need to hear it in the words you share and through the sentiments you express,
and I don’t.
It is what it is, no malice intended.
That’s not my thing! Come on! It is buried within all of modern down to Earth physical biological material sciences. Please, show me a more fundamental division of the human condition. It’s a fact of nature.
Latest technology is quite literally turning humans into consumer-units, and they are learning to think for us. What happened to being a human in all that?
Instead of soberly facing the assortment of growing threats facing We chose worshipping “progress” and racing toward, . . . , we didn’t have a clue, we just love speed flashes of power. We always had to consume more as fast as possible, too much was never ever enough.
But then came the 1950s, 60s, 70s and the divine challenge from the universal on high support by solid scientific facts and reasoning. Earth was reaching the limits of its ability to sustain our runaway human population and ravenous material greed - we were going to start significantly damaging Earth’s life support systems. But, who cares.
Humanity was literally handed an ultimatum: Temper our greed with a little wisdom and sober reality based foresight - Less children, less expectations, more concern for others and especially this Earth we’ve neglected so long. We need to absorb the lessons of nd how much we were a part of, and depended on, “nature” - to think long and hard about the stakes that we were playing with.
I’ve been witness to over a half century of ignorant choices that guaranteed further cascading self-destructive behaviors.
And you keep coming at me, as though no body has anything to regret or think about.
This was the Center For Inquiry, someone needs to be a witness.
Bringing all this back to the OP and playing with Anti-matter for fun and profit, and I was trying to explain why it provides an object lesson in how and why humanity is losing the human race.
For the most we as a people are too lost within our own minds, (playing basketball in zero gravity) and hold Earth’s systems and our Evolution in too much disregard.
Yet, say that to anyone and their hackles rise - even as current global events underscores the bankrupt nature of all the lies we’ve fed ourselves.
