It’s about getting in touch with our humanity

I suggest high brow morality theory, quantum collapse theory, orchestrated objective reduction suppositions, quantum biology (a term that totally trivializes biology) etc. philosophizing for fun and profit simply cannot get us to the heart of our humanity and appreciating how our body/brain produces our thoughts, our Mind, our sense of Self and the actions it triggers.

Arriving at such a significant level of self awareness requires a deep biological understanding, because that’s what directly connects with the why and how of our needs and impulses.

I mean what can be more Occam’s razor than that? Seriously tackle the question, keeping it within this framework.

Within the past decades evolutionary science and neurobiology has made amazing concrete steps towards demonstrating the symphony of mechanisms that work together to produce our personality and behaviors—while bankrupting Chalmers’ hubristic dismissal of biology’s power to explain—without resorting to metaphysical sky-hooks.

Since this comment has been swamped into silence, I’m bring it to a new thread and hoping this time we might be able to keep discussion within the framework I’ve established. Or ignore. We can make an experiment out of it.

That’s a marvelous achievement to dwell on - but no, we are after the “Truth” & the mirage of Infinite Potential - whatever good that would be.
Me thinks it’s just a politically correct term for God.
What was that joke about the universe laughing behind our backs? :face_blowing_a_kiss:

Nobody is swamping you CC.

There you go again.

The devil is in the details.

Lausten, why conflate commenter with comment?

Okay. No comment is getting swamped into silence.

Technical note:
That auto deletion of quotes - is an irritating glitch.

But, no apology?

Take a look at what happened at: The problem with Chalmers’ way of thinking … (title edit)

Wish you’d stop with the Gas Lighting!

verb
gerund or present participle: gas-lighting
manipulate (someone) using psychological methods into questioning their own sanity or powers of reasoning.

I’m not doing that. I understand that you feel that way but I feel it is an unfair assessment.

Meanwhile back at the ranch:
Why does it matter?

Recently “Morality” has been featured in a CFI thread and it included the shared work of great thinkers, but all that stuff seemed to me starched, all about some idealized morality, in idealized situations, (that never connect with the real life dramas unfolding) within our bodies.

What about dealing with our human individual moral maelstrom of emotions, obligations, conflicts, impulses, those tingles that entice, the daydreams we want to make reality, the disappoints that crash us back to earth, our triumphs, and all the drama in our real lives -
all the while meeting the crosscurrents of fast paced unpredictable events and circumstance, that can upend all our intentions in a beat?

A deep inside biological evolutionary understanding helps us identify and relate to those tingles inside - tingles that so often trigger reaction - or frustration. Learning to understand, tame and harness those tingles and triggers, is a valuable life skill.

Learning that your (half a billion years in development) body has deep wells of understanding and agenda, beyond what your thoughts are aware of - it creates a partnership.

A captain and his ship, sort of,
since in this case the captain appreciates that in many ways the ship knows more than the captain,
so there’s a rich partnership at work for maximum constructive results.

To trivialize (our inner biological connections to our behavior) is a travesty.

Because, how to translate one’s morals into one’s behavior; to appreciate the difference between our fantasies and our real living life - requires an awareness of what’s going on inside - that is why it is important to appreciate historic realities of our body’s biology and how those influence what’s happening in our minds.

To appreciate how others physically influence us and via versa. To feel a sense of obligation to the ethics one has chosen.

Learning to be aware of and comfortable within one’s own skin, and how that plays into how we behave towards ourself, and others, and in turn, how they behave toward us. And so on, and so forth.

It all starts with a deep appreciation of our origins and Earth’s Evolution, and how we are a reflection of that, then work it out from there.

Physical Reality ~ Human Mind divide

I am an evolved mammal, and my thoughts are the reflection of my body communicating with itself. That’s a lot to take in, but it’s based on science, lots of homework, along with plain pragmatic common sense, and it breeds respect for this Earth that created us and nurtures us.

It can even take it one step further to being the Eyes of the Universe, reveling in how much we’ve learned and know about our selves and our universe,
So many answers to so many questions people have been wondering about since forever - and loving one’s short life on this one and only home, the Miracle Planet, Mother Earth, we’ll ever have.
