To me, if we aren’t acknowledging this, we can’t get started on political solutions. We can’t tell people to read the paper if they can’t read. We can’t tell people that they should know how civics works if we stopped teaching civics. We can’t have a discussion about why a progressive tax system is better if people don’t know what that means, and all they hear is “progressive” and think it’s socialism. We can’t talk about cutting waste in government if they hear “transgenic” mice and think that’s DEI or gay or something, instead of something needed for scientific research for their grandmother.
Yep. Imagine how things will be once there’s no more NEA. Leaving education to the states will create an even larger gap in knowledge and critical thinking between red and blue states. The opening up of schools to Jesus will be fun.
You are making me afraid.
We don’t have to imagine because that’s how it was before. I’m old enough to have seen Madelyn Murray Ohare on Donahue, getting yelled at because she didn’t want prayer in school.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German theologian and anti-Nazi resistance fighter, identified stupidity as a greater threat than evil itself.
Unlike malice, which can be confronted, stupidity is immune to logic, resistant to reason, and dangerously convinced of its own rightness.Bonhoeffer observed how Nazi Germany transformed intelligent individuals into blind followers, illustrating how stupidity spreads in society when people surrender their independent thought for conformity.
This video explores Bonhoeffer’s insights into stupidity as a socio-psychological phenomenon, showing how it enables authoritarianism, propaganda, and mass manipulation.
It also provides practical steps to resist stupidity, such as maintaining critical thinking, avoiding groupthink, recognizing manipulation tactics, and embracing intellectual independence.
In a world filled with misinformation and blind loyalty, Bonhoeffer’s warning remains more relevant than ever.
To combat stupidity, we must stay critical, stay aware, and refuse to be ruled by ignorance.
Abraham Lincoln:
Abraham Lincoln’s famous quote, “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time,” carries a powerful message about the limits of deception and the ultimate truth that prevails in the end.
Simply put, the quote highlights the fact that while it may be possible to deceive individuals for a certain period, the truth will eventually come to light, and deception cannot be sustained indefinitely.
This timeless wisdom emphasizes the importance of honesty, integrity, and transparency in all aspects of life and serves as a reminder that dishonesty will eventually be uncovered.
Are you to busy reading to see what is going on. There is a political solution taking place.
QED
That response proves the point.
I think that Lincoln was expressing himself before the times of mass propaganda and social medias.
Well. Yes, … and no. It’s relative.
The Press and the President
Review - Redd, Rea Andrew
Winter 2015Holzer, Harold Lincoln and the Power of the Press: The War for Public
Opinion. Simon and Schuster, $37.50 ISBN 9781439192719*
Lincoln and The Power of the Press: The War for Public Opinion is a
detailed story of the process of journalism and the cult of personality of editors
and owners. For a politician who declared that public sentiment is everything,
Lincoln recognized that, more than any other one thing, newspapers shaped
public opinion. During the Civil War era, of the over 4,000 newspapers and
journals approximately, 8 of 10 were political in nature.
Lincoln began reading newspapers very early in his life. Later he used them
to argue his case and attack political opponents. He cultivated editors by
pampering them, hindering them, or manipulating them to change their course.
Lincoln the President used the press to talk directly to readers. At times he
signed his work, at times he submitted his work anonymously; he guided his
presidential staff in their newspaper submissions. Lincoln’s writing style was
similar to the English translators of the King James’s Bible and the
Shakespeare’s plays. His writings reveal his wit and precise perceptions of the
public’s temperament.
Not since the 1952 appearance of Robert Harper’s Lincoln and the Press has
there been a complete and copious examination of the relationship between
Lincoln and newspaper editors and writers. Though Robert …
You’re in the right ballpark, but it’s much worse.
Education is not our way out of “the problem”. In fact, it’s a big part of the problem.
Teachers (let alone public school teachers) will never be allowed to lead the democrats
I guess that is one good thing in their favor.
And here we are in not doing so
Yes, Democrats are at their lowest.
Because their voters are not happy they are not effective opposing Trump !!!
Because they attack trump from the right. They are losing people badly and havent got a leader in sight
If you’re saying we need to improve our schools, I agree. But how can education itself be a problem?
As your link says, " Ortiz’s case is not unique. Literacy advocates argue that disparities in educational resources disproportionately affect students in underfunded districts, contributing to cases where students graduate without essential skills."
First, Democrats almost never attack from the right.
Second, this is how disgusting people attack from the right:
Ortiz’s case is about failing to provide adequate special education services in providing adequate support for students with learning disabilities.
To earn a Connecticut high school diploma, students graduating in 2023 or later must earn a minimum of 25 credits, including specific requirements in humanities, STEM, physical education, health, world language, and a mastery-based diploma assessment.
Connecticut high school uses a holistic approach to learning focuses on developing the whole person, including their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs. It emphasizes real-world application and encourages students to think critically and solve problems. Holistic learning emphasizes respect for all, which includes the land and other natural elements of life. Students learn essential language and math concepts and life skills, but also develop a sense of gratitude for everyone and everything around them.
The Democrats stopped the schools from having no illiteracy in schools. Now they don’t like the results.
With lawsuits like this. We now may have to have teachers for every student with learning disabilities. This happened twenty years ago in Wyoming when a wealthy couple moved to an elite area with a child with handicap wheelchair disabilities. It costs building, transportation and a teacher just for the child.
There’s going to be a debatable call when it comes to moral issues.
In California right now, 39% of the students have English as a second language. Over 130 languages with the schools dealing with 75 different languages. The point being when it comes to literacy does that mean you have to have literacy in the language the student speaks?
Honestly, for me, whatever the native langage, pupils must be literate in the official langage of the country where they live.
They need it to communicate, understand, be understandable, during their university years, to find a job and so.
Opposite opinions are bullshit.
Catalonia authorities privileged the local langage over Spanish. the result is that some young people of Catalonia can’t go to study outside, as they are not fluent enough in Spanish.
