Folk economics

Anyone want to summarize a 65 page paper for me? It’s mentioned at around 14 minutes into this

He’s relating this to religion, although the paper is focusing on economics. It sheds a little light on our political situation too. The paper is linked in the YouTube notes under Boyer and Peterson. The general topic he’s touching on is, scientific thinking wasn’t taught until recently, it wasn’t the norm. Before that, you didn’t think, ‘oh, I’m speculating now, I’m getting into philosophy, I know I don’t have evidence, but…’. Instead, you just tried to figure out why people across the river did weird things, and when you came up with a reason, you tried to figure how to justify it. Someone would pontificate about their thoughts, and that would become a folk tale, a just-so story.
