Elon Musk and the lithium

What Elon Musk has done is impressive and inspiring, and has shown us that mass energy storage can be made a reality. But I have a lot of skepticism about this technology in it's current form. There are several problems. There just isn't enough lithium in the world for this to be a viable global solution. Lithium has a short shelf life in battery form. Lithium is expensive and would increase exponentially if we expanded this technology in it's current form. Mass energy storage is the key to the future of renewable energy. But Elon Musks batteries are just not going to be a scalable solution. I'm glad he did it, but it is proof of concept at best.
