Does anti-realism mean there is no external world?

What’s that supposed to mean?
‘You don’t go on forums and tell other they aren’t doing it right’

We as a collective nation of citizens, we spent the past twenty, thirty years watching a hostile takeover attempt, that in 2025 achieved its goal? We also stood by quietly while the billionaires and FOX faux news, were practicing their deception by turning serious, excellent climate scientists into national enemies. Those psychological successes build the ground work for Christian Nationalists/GOP driven national brainwashing campaigns and grassroots strategizing.

Where were the Proud, and the Brave? For all their Inspirational Speeches, what were the Proud Boys doing to help explain the threat to Americans?

That our very US Constitution was understand a strategic attack by people who reject America’s core principles of evolving a healthy pluralistic society, that used scientific help and protect - now it seems all scientists are for AI, missions to Mars, building better weapons of mass destruction, while Earth observation scientists are treated as enemies.

But I’d better not open my mouth, dare one point out we are doing this to ourselves and that we need to do some serious soul searching before anything can possibly start changing.

Please notice how I laid that out: unless such and such happens, we need to expect a continuing degradation as nature runs her course.

I’m not telling anyone they need to do this or that. Simply pointing out that we want to avoid such and such, will require some profound changes in expectations and behaviors.

I’m not here to preach to others - but lordie, lord, what does it take to get one’s actual words seriously critiqued? Constantly insisting that your misunderstand is what I’m saying, then side stepping my attempts to clarify, is what’s setting up this tension and conflict.

inthedarkness,

My understanding is that there are two kinds of anti-realism: epistemological and metaphysical. Epistemological anti-realism means that we can only know of the world through our senses and minds, and metaphysical anti-realism means that there’s no external world. I agree with the first one but not the second one. I think we can only know of the world through our senses and minds, but I think there’s an external world.

FYI, inthedarkness was put on long haiatus because he started calling everyone dumb. He might be back in the Fall. No matter what you said to him, there was always something that bothered him because he couldn’t prove or disprove it. So, he could argue against anything, and he did.

lausten,

Thanks for the update on inthedarkness. Yeah, he seemed troubled by not being able to figure anything out for certain. He was more concerned with trying to find the truth than enjoying his life. I hope he gets better.

Interesting, do you think there is some fundamental truth?

I thought this was worth resurrecting this thread
