Democracy Docket: Dissecting the Election and the Role of the Media

We have a pretty good sense of what the public cares about. We also know how the system keeps them from having power.

I’m not trying to make a scholarly argument for this idea so much, rather pointing out that it’s a legitimate idea to discuss

2016 :

Trump : 62 984 828 votes, 306 mandates
Clinton : 65 853 514 votes, 232 mandates

2020 :

Trump : 74 223 975 votes, 232 mandates
Biden : 81 263 501 votes, 306 mandates

2024 :

Trump : 74 708 357 votes, 312 mandates
Harris : 70 979 779 votes, 226 mandates

A Frenchman explains that beyond the punishment inflicted by the liberals to Harris, for her positions about Palestine and ecology, the main reason of the votes for Trump is their resentment against the elites, against inflation, against the the questioning of their meager statutory advantages, as whites, as males, as American citizens vis-à-vis immigrants.

And for him, democracy supposes the ability of the people to choose the best solution, rationally.

He goes on saying that we are changing from this system, to enter an era of resentment and decivilisation.

I am not sure i fully agree, but it is interesting.

Studies have shown that at least one third of Trump electorate knows him for whom he is.

Nevertheless they vote for him, to break the system and get a revenge.

citizens myopic observations doesnt see this. Its all down to russia and putin according to him in why trump won both times.

Well we just needed to figure out that our democracy was being played with increasingly loaded dice.

All the Democratic Party needed was to figure out, that our goal needed to be out voting GOP 2 to 1 - that would have evened the odds.

Do what you gotta do.

Seems, feels, like the DNC didn’t even try.

Being foolish enough to think we can fix this in two year or four years.

If wishes were horses . . .

Sharon Stone agrees with you. Not saying she’s wrong.

Lol, celebrities.

Everything they say about the real world is wrong.

Trump knows millions have seen his wife naked and he’s not bothered by it, so it’s not even a case of Putin trying to dominate Trump. Blaming the election on Putin is for sad sacks who think something is wrong, but they don’t even know what direction to look in.

Oh sure plenty of directions to look, though one does not negate the others also happening.

So yeah, look toward the billionaires fools who have more power and money than God, who made this happening.

Power and money corrupt people and Mr. Donald is as pathetic as a human fool can get.
He’s got his way through bribery and bullying and help from his Daddy Warbucks & friends.

You also know dang well that I’ve written plenty about the degeneration of American civic awareness and feelings of gratitude and responsibly towards their nation and its Constitution.

Self-absorbed and self-serving that’s how America lost itself and this election.
But that doesn’t negate Putin all important role in helping us do this to ourselves. Yeah, yeah, the Democrats really blew it also as they lived up to their wet-noodle reputation.

The Great Forgotten Betrayal of the Trump Years
By David Corn February 21, 2024
Donald Trump’s weird relationship with Vladimir Putin and Russia is back in the news. But something big is missing.

After his remarks earlier this month encouraging the Russian leader/war criminal to invade NATO countries that do not increase their defense spending, there was a flurry of stories in the media that referenced Trump’s peculiar years-long love affair with Putin. Another rush of similar commentary followed the death (or murder) of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in an Arctic prison camp, when Trump at first said nothing about this tragedy and then issued a self-serving statement that did not condemn Putin or Moscow but instead compared Trump to Navalny, citing his own supposed persecution by “CROOKED, Radical Left Politicians, Prosecutors, and Judges.”

Reporting Trump’s dreadful, delayed, and narcissistic response to Navalny’s death, the New York Times noted, “The former president has a long history of complimenting Mr. Putin, calling him ‘pretty smart’ even as Russia prepared to invade Ukraine. And he has at times favored [Russia] over traditional U.S. allies.”

A week earlier the paper mentioned Trump’s “odd affinity” for Putin. Following Trump’s NATO remarks, NPR produced a piece noting there was a “romance” between the American right and Putin.

The Associated Press reported that Trump “has often praised [Putin] as tough.” A Forbes article on Trump’s NATO comment pointed out his longtime “pro-Putin stance.”

Check, check, check.

Russia: Trump & His Team’s Ties | Representative Swalwell

You can play willfully ignorant, that’s the way trump likes 'em. But there’s plenty of evidence for all the above.

Though it is also true this election was in the hands of the American people (sure we would had to out vote the GOP 1.5 to 1.0, to offset all their dirty tricks to fuk election integrity - but considering all the eligible voters who didn’t bother - (if only, “informed & engaged”) - but they turned their backs on democracy - now we get to live with the results of a century of Hollywood Dreaming turning Amerika into an genuine idiocracy - book burnings and all.

Oh I almost forgot - the roll that God_Fear’n brainwashing played on our minds.
People who have been getting brainwashed for over a half-century to believe God is all about how much prosperity they can squeeze out of their neighbors & convincing oneself that the Creator of the universe is in a personal relationship with them.

It’s beyond comprehension for me, how any mentally healthy person can actually believe such a thing, but it turns out I’m a pretty rare bird who managed to dodge the God & Greed Curse and I grew up a bit more aware of what the physical world Earth has provided us, than most others.

But you Guy, how is it that you aren’t bothered that Mr. Donald is a life long criminal mind, with complete contempt for other people; our US government; regulations (no complex system can thrive without them); civic responsibility; standards of honesty and openness - and a guy who surrounds himself with other criminal minds with grudges. An egomaniac who hates reading and thinking, put in charge of our government.

To me it’s an indication of how rotted & immoral We The People as a nation have become. It’s grievous crying tragedy, but it’s for real, we saw it in the election results (talk about self-absorbed and self-serving)

Sure you can win the war and thump your chest,
but the people you follow can offer nothing but an Amyl Nitrite buzz …
and then they crash, taking all the sheople with 'em.

Take a look at history, plenty of examples.

The Russia bullshit is as stale as can be at this point. Take it somewhere else.

That’s an interesting statement.
What a dream world you living.

2025 will mark the year humanity crossed the tipping point into dystopia - history will be the witness.

So idiotic. It didn’t need to be this way but as thatoneguy demonstrates - extreme self-absorption coupled with self-serving actions produces self destructive outcomes.

Then again character is destiny and as the western history of the past couple thousands years, and more demonstrates, our ultimate self destruction was practically predetermined. I’m told various Indians have spot on premonitions about where we were taking ourselves.

But watching it unfolded so fast, with so little pushback, it’s breathtaking, even for someone who’s been worried about our society’s rot and our habit of hideous counter-productive choices since my high school days.

We are a nation under the rule of law. Established under principle of pluralism.

That requires awareness and respect for rules and regulations and laws and for one’s oath of office. It also requires legal respect for each other including one’s opponents and those of different beliefs, so long as we all obey the laws.

yeah, yeah, never been perfect but the ideals mean something and provide cohesion.

Now the people coming into the reigns of power, are greedy self-serving criminal minds, with absolute contempt for our government’s check and balances and its other organizational structures, including it’s rules of conduct, along with the laws they are sworn to obey and enforce - all that is out the window with this new MAGA nation of billionaires and their brainwashed hordes.

How can anything but massive self destruction and the chaos (& horrors) it breeds not be expected from this crowd?

All I’m seeing here is mental illness.

Yeah, domestic abuse is a mental “illness” I’ll grant you that.

I sense much anger in you.

Not to mention a deep disregard for others.

Life has also taught me how easy it is to find grievous fault in others,
yet remain utterly blind to one’s own faults.

giphy

Wow, that is some depth you’ve been able to muster.

Queue up the clowns.
