Here we are, mid March, been a couple weeks since I’ve had to build a fire, instead of hunkered inside, with time on my hands, I’m outside dealing with early spring gardening chores and watering, with all it entails. And, more fire mitigation.
Our mountains are at around 20% average snowpack (I remember as lad pounding fence posts
staring at those mountains full of snow into the end of summer, with the ranchers lamenting of how that cover was there all summer and into autumn snow storms).
Fortunately I’ve heard further north it’s around a whopping 60%. Forecasts for Colorado River runoff are at a third “normal” runoff numbers, and happening faster than traditionally. High temps are melting what’s in the high country fast.
During the past decade surprise March, April snow storm have been life savers. But they aren’t happening. Forecast has rain for next week. We shall see.
2026 has a foreboding feeling, like the inevitable is arriving, and the changes will put all the political bullshit in it’s place, in short order. I don’t know where you live, but next time you flush that toilet, think about what miracles went into making it possible. Then imagine, nothing coming out, and nothing you can do about it.
That is the future our idiotic self-indulgences have brought us to.
Like it or not, we shall see how it unfolds. Half a century of warnings, and pleading ignored - . . . . . . .
