Climate Change

Is that why I was so happy to see my neighbors beamer burn?

I am talking about the US.
But now that you mention it. In Germany , what percent of energy is from green power?

https://www.reuters.com/article/germany-power-renewables-idUKKBN28O1AH

How much of U.S. energy consumption and electricity generation comes from renewable energy sources?

In 2020, renewable energy sources accounted for about 12% of total U.S. energy consumption and about 20% of electricity generation.

Happy to let it burn? What’s the chemistry of hemp Head?

You cannot be that uninformed. Industrial Hemp has a negligible amount of THC.

It does belong to the Cannabis family but it is NOT Marijuana!

What Is Industrial Hemp?

The U.S. government defines industrial hemp as “a plant of the genus Cannabis and any part of the plant, whether growing or not, containing a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration of no more than three-tenths of one percent (0.3%) on a dry weight basis.”

The stalks, leaves, oil, and seeds provide materials used in a wide variety of products, including paper, textiles, building materials, food products, supplements, biofuels, bioplastics, and personal care items. Sources claim that industrial hemp may have as many as 25,000 applications.

Industrial hemp is grown in many countries around the world. At one time in American history, farmers were legally obliged to grow it because it served so many practical functions.

The history of hemp cultivation in the U.S. has gone through dramatic changes, from a required crop to a banned one. It’s now again a resurgent industry driven by the rising popularity of CBD oil products.

I know - I was being a little light-hearted.

I don’t have a neighbor with a BMW, let alone that it burned …

LOL, I figured you were joking. You can’t get high on Hemp.

There’s that whole Reefer Madness belief psychosis (religious, conservative, etc)

Stop digging that hole. It’s quite embarrassing

Hemp:
I’m actually curious to find out more how other industries had lobbied against hemp - I’ve seen some/ heard some stuff, but …

That hysterical perspective caused marijuana to placed in the Category I classification of drugs, along with opioids like Opium, Morphine, Heroin, LSD, …more

Even Marijuana is not an opioid, it is a cannabinoid, a whole different ball of wax.
Industrial Hemp is not even a psychotropic drug.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration lists marijuana in the most restrictive of five classes that the agency uses to regulate dangerous drugs. Marijuana is classified as a Schedule I substance, which is the ranking reserved for drugs with the greatest potential for abuse and with no medicinal value. Heroin, ecstasy and LSD are listed in that category, too, while cocaine and methamphetamine rank one level lower than marijuana, as Schedule II.

Almost since marijuana was first classified this way, advocates have been fighting to “reschedule” it to a lower tier. They argue that the Schedule I classification isn’t justified on scientific grounds. Marijuana is not considered highly addictive or dangerous [except possibly for adolescents who smoke it while their brains are still forming. And the plant seems to hold medical promise in a number of areas --[one drug that is derived from a compound found in marijuana has already been approved to treat nausea in cancer patients.

Industrial Hemp is in completely different class. It is actually worth the paper it is written on…

Because everybody knows what those are. I quit cutting and paste information that everyone already knows a long time ago.

:+1: :v:

Even LSD has noted positive effects / medicinal (psychiatry) benefits.

  • but another subject …

hemp was actually used as legal tender
… hemp fell the way of intense propaganda and special interests, with the government no longer discerning between industrial hemp, and psychoactive cannabis.

Skipping ahead many years, this propaganda still rules our legal system, with hemp remaining illegal on the federal level, with the only recent concession being the allowance of state-level hemp research. Although federal legislation continues to be introduced to legalize hemp, it always stalls in both the House and Senate.

Despite this, numerous states have legalized hemp on the state level, with farmers growing it this very minute.

Wow 1 million people on alert in Japan!

I’m an Americophile from mine youth and Podunk crosses the Pond jus’ farn.

So why are their electricity GHGs up 25%?

Nobody is talking about weed (marijuana).

This is really not the time to make light of Hemp. Hemp may well be one of the most productive agriculture oriented farming. It has an extraordinary long fiber which can be grown to the delicacy of silk for clothing , or to the extraordinary break resistant power of ocean liner mooring cables.

We always speak of the dense tropical rain forests as being the lungs of the world. but as we keep harvesting wood, we are really reducing the forest’ ability to scrub the atmosphere from CO2. It takes 20 years for a forest to regrow.

Now consider that 1 acre of fast growing Hemp will scrub as much CO2 as 20 acres of slow growing trees every year.

Moreover, this includes two complete crop rotations per year and the eco-friendly raw materials for thousand of non-pollution goods for general consumption.

Rain forests offer an effective CO2 scrubber ability, but the wood products they produce take 20 years to regrow. Now consider that Hemp regrows twice a year.

This is why 1 acre of Hemp will scrub as much CO2 as 20 acres of trees and offer a year long supply of raw fiber for commercial uses.

You can even build your house with Hemp bricks … this is why Hemp is an Important Agriculture.

Go for it. I can see an argument for piling it in to lagoons and lakes, especially in Finland, Canada, Russia as a carbon sink with other environmental benefits; water management, flood control, afforestation.

This known product can be a perfect solution to a general change-over from fossil fuel dependent industry to Renewable Green fuel based industry.

Hemp

Overview

Hemp is a plant. It is the same species of plant as cannabis. But unlike cannabis, hemp contains very low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), less than 0.3%. It is legal to sell hemp and hemp products in the U.S. Hemp flowers, leaves, seed, seed oil, and protein are used as food and/or medicine.

Hemp is used to make cloth, cosmetics, rope, printer’s ink, wood preservative, detergents, soaps, and lighting oil.

How does it work ?

Hemp seed contains fats, protein, and other chemicals. The fats in hemp seed might help to reduce inflammation (swelling). Some chemicals in hemp seed help to promote bowel movements and lower blood pressure.
