A witch is in town

Hello folks. My name is Linda and I’m a witch. Sounds like I was at a meeting of AA. I was up to my 36th year of life, a Mormon, and there was excommunicated because of transsexuality. I visited various Christian churches after that, but everywhere I experienced either attempts to heal, or you wanted to convert me to their view of the Bible, a view that was mostly fundamentalist. I have my own German website about Wicca, and also about Christianity. The Christian Forum I founded in order to heal my self. Because I do not believe that there is only one view of Christianity, want us to believe as some fundamentalists about these idiots of the Landover Baptist Church (in their forum)

Are you claiming that your beliefs are more rational than those of the people at Landover Baptist Church? Lois

Are you claiming that your beliefs are more rational than those of the people at Landover Baptist Church? Lois Lois, from what I know of some contemporary Wiccan beliefs, (though still heavily embedded with superstitious nonsense) they ARE more rational than those of the people at Landover Baptist Church or most other Christian dogma for that matter, IMO.

No. Woo is woo no matter if it's goddy woo or witchy woo, it's still an imaginary delusion. MzLee

I agree, better, but still destructive. It's a little like saying one bad egg is better than another bad egg, so enjoy! ;) Lois

I thought Landover was a spoof on Xianity

Oh. You're right. I was thinking "Westboro Baptist Church". So much for my bleeped up brain.

I consider you to be partially correct, here. I think that some imaginary delusions are worse than others.

I consider you to be partially correct, here. I think that some imaginary delusions are worse than others. I don't know. Bewitched was kind of fun, esp when Andora became up to no good and Samantha's aunt failed big time. Then there was doctor Bombay who couldn't cure a thing. Very entertaining.

I enjoyed Bewitched, in my younger days, and I still enjoy shows about the supernatural and fantasy, just as I enjoy science fiction shows and movies. I recognize the power of myth, also, but recognize it all for what it is. As far as comedy, these days, I have really enjoyed Amy Schumer's TV show, recently. She is not a witch, just a slut, but a quite likeable and funny slut.

I agree with Lee. Woo: belief in fairytales, is uniformly damaging to the person’s thinking. The problem here is that we have to differentiate between enjoyable fiction and mistaking it for reality. We have to be careful not to give certain ideas a pass because of some situations we like. Sure, I and a great many of us enjoyed the TV show, “I Married a Witch”, but I wonder whether some poor misinformed people actually got helped being sucked into Wicca by watching that show.

Linda, I hope they haven’t frightened you off. I’m sure they don’t mean anything personal by it. We’re generally pretty open to all kinds of opinions around here, and I for one would like to know what you think.

I guess we had better burn all of the copies of "Harry Potter" books to protect our children from becoming witches and warlocks.? But seriously, I didn't see the movie you referenced, but movies are generally considered to be fiction. Wiccans, apparently, actually believe that there is a goddess of some sort, and actually believe they can perform hexes, etc. But as in most religions, they have some elements of pro-social beliefs, as well. Many people are going to be religious. That is a fact of human nature and the societies in which we live. So while I do not give a pass to superstitious nonsense in any religion, I recognize that religions are going to continue to exist. Thus, I tend to differentiate, to the extent that I can, between the religions that are potentially more harmful than others.

I agree. Most posters on this forum are anti-religions, but I view the primary purpose of this forum as being the promotion of humanistic principles. So, personally, I don't want anyone of a humanistic bent, chased off, simply because of their chosen religion. Even the non-humanists that frequent this forum provide, sometimes interesting, counter opinions.

I agree, while fantasy and fiction are enjoyable amusements no one takes them for real and if they do it's because they already have some form of mental issue. People using a common delusion like god beliefs as a real life path should never get a pass as they not only inflict it on others but infect the naïve, the feeble and the gullible. Indoctrination IMO is abuse and no other word for it. I would like to see an age restriction put on indoctrination to religion, say 17, like a movie with adult themes, religious tomes should have an age appropriate warning label and not be sold without ID. Whatever punishments there are for introducing your children to porn should also be charged for any adult themed gore ridden, misogynistic obsessed material. I know that's extreme and not likely to happen but when you think about the horrendous stories in the bible, that shit is not PG. (sorry, got a little off topic with my rant :(...) MzLee ps... get your hands off my HP! ;-P

HP? But as to your previous point, I think I have said something similar in the past. I really hate child abuse. And I, too, consider some religious indoctrination to be such. (e.g., Believe or burn in hellfire for eternity.) Plus, I don't care for the idea of children being lied to. Of course, many religious persons don't realize that they are lying to children when they try to fill their heads and hearts with superstitious ideas.

That's why I'm here and not at mad men of the LBC. By the way, in one you are mistaken when it comes to Wicca. We know that things are not real, we can only imagine that they were real, so as to achieve a particular result. An example: If I am applying for a job, and I believe not to be taken, I will not set. But if I radiate that one must necessarily take me because I'm the only right person for the job, increase my chances of getting the job. Magic, this word that we all know, comes from the word IMAGINATION, which means "to imagine something figuratively". And that makes Wicca.
