The Christ Myth Theory

If you haven’t already, check out the book Childhood’s End by Arthur C Clarke. (Do not watch the movie! it’s awful) . It’s similar in theme and, well it’s from ACC!

That’s the thing I can’t figure out - why so called “believers” can’t understand this. Maybe we just have to chalk it up to longing for a protector. But also, if one does get into a discussion with these folks, you can deflate them by saying Yes, Jesus existed. So what.

The interesting part is that Mary could not possibly have been a virgin giving birth to a male child.

If Mary had been a virgin who spontaneously conceived, any offspring would have had to be female and a clone of Mary.

It takes male sperm to produce male offspring, so a true virgin is unable to conceive a male child.

Someone else recommended that. There are similarities to part 1, but I don’t like where that goes on later chapters

Childhood’s End by Arthur C Clarke is very frightening…

About Mary, a very common theory is that she got pregnant, from the usual reason, and that it had to be hidden …

Why do we even have to believe JC existed? Why should we even care? It seems to me Xians demand belief in both JC and their god. The thing is, there is no evidence that the Jesus in the Bible ever existed or if he did, he didn’t exist as described in the Bible. IMHO, the JC of the Bible is just more of the Xian myth.

They believe that admitting Jesus existed somehow “proves” that therefore he was the son of god. I say, okay I’ll admit he existed. Proves nothing. Similar to how they think that creation implies a creator and therefore the creator is THEIR creator. Again, fun exercise is to say, yes, absolutely, there was a creator, and she was intelligent (i.e. intelligent design). Doesn’t prove a thing until you prove, without reference to any book, that that creator is xtian. Otherwise you/believer are just make shizz up, and anyone can do that.

In history this has happened about 3000 times and the current mono-theists are actually atheistic in regard to 2999 god myths, whereas atheists are atheist to just one more god myth.

What’s freaky is stopping to think of the Christian Mind(scape) that wants to construct their lives into what amounts to a veritable Globe Stage. All plays written by the same author, repeating their scripts over and over in any number of variations.

There’s so much out here, living within your own body, aware of being a biological evolved creature, free to focus on the substance of my interactions with other people and the chores we need to do to get through our day to days.

In touch with the huge swath of time on this Earth of ours, and creatures and landscapes and people who inhabit it.

I can’t imagine being confined to the Christian Melodramatic Religion. They don’t know about God, it’s all a reflection of themselves.

The thought of it rings with confinement, couldn’t do it. We are made to move and live and think and gain new experiences and learn from our mistakes and so on and so forth. The adventure of being who you are, and succeeding, in an unforgiving reality.

The crazies one I heard was Jesus was a capitalist and had a furniture factory with many employees.

I have to agree. The character Jesus was not a capitalist. He was a socialist.

I am not sure it is relevant to apply our categories here.

And if Jesus existed, he was a Jewish Rabbin of his time. He would be horrified to be named a socialiste.

Why would he be horrified? And why the nuance of “socialiste” as if it was something to be horrified of?

Is Social Security something to be horrified of? How about Medicare? How about free general Education? How about the Military Services? How about Interstate Transport regulation? Infrastructure, Utilities, garbage services.

These are commonly shared services that affect everyone equally!

Those are all Social Services performed by professionals earning a good wage.
Federal wages are above free market wages, horror… :scream:

You know who are the horrific class ? The Capitalistes, who are out to get all the Nation’s wealth without paying any taxes for Social Services.

I am not a socialist but I support the concept of a balanced Socio/Economic system .

Q: Why is a Socio/Economic system better than a purely Socialist or purely Capitalist system?

A: Because if done right it offers the best of both worlds, rather than the worst.

Why do you think the mythical Jesus would be upset by being called a socialist, or socialiste?

He was all about the fundamentals of compassion and responsibility towards other humans, especially the other ones, you don’t like.
Of course the mythical God of the Bible doesn’t agree with his son on most of the nice, nice things.
Perhaps that’s who you meant, the Christian God would hate being called a socialiste, since he comes across as a petty xenophobe, in need of constant adulation, loser. One would think God would have a little more inner solidity, but there you have it, the Bible told me so.

Because he was a Jewish rabbin of ancient times. the concept of collective property, of collective power, even of democracy, as we mean it, would have been totally stranger to him.

May be he would have changed his mind once it was explained to him.

But you can’t abstract a man from his origins, even if he can change.

When young, Gandhi was racist. He changed. Wikipedia article cites sources.

Democracy, probably, but only the voting part. Collective living was part of their culture though. They might not have called it that, but supporting each other in community is demonstrated throughout the Bible. It was the Romans who were introducing the foreign idea of landlords.

Apparently the newest target for mythicist Richard Carrier is me! Here is Carrier responding to my critique of him: John MacDonald's Bizarre Defense of a Historical Jesus • Richard Carrier . Here are my posts/articles this is all based on: John MacDonald BLOG POSTS Christian Origins Index (Secular Frontier) | The Secular Frontier

Not sure why you’re complaining. Any publicity is good publicity, in that people will probably go to your site and read what you have to say. They might not agree, but they may read it. I didn’t read all of that listed, but I also didn’t read what Carrier said about you. In part because I just got home from work not too long ago and I’m tired. That said, I lean more towards Carrier’s view. I don’t believe J.C. ever existed as portrayed in the Bible. I also don’t believe he existed as Xians present him either. I’m with Robert M. Price in that if J.C. ever existed, he’s too buried in myth to find.

Congrats on that. He thought you were worth the trouble
