The attack on Social Security benefits begins

What’s to do but share and hope people will get informed and engaged.
MAGA wants to destroy our government and leave the pieces for the ultra rich pick over and fight about. A plan only nasty hateful spoiled brats could dream up - and the rest of us are supposed to behave as though what they are doing is normal?

In January 2025, 73 million people—more than 1 in 5 Americans—received benefits from the Social Security Administration (SSA). But the agency that gets those benefits into bank accounts to buy groceries and pay bills is now under attack, putting beneficiaries at risk of dangerous disruptions and delays. Recently, the SSA announced that it would cut approximately 7,000 jobs—a 12 percent reduction in the agency’s staffing.

At the same time, the SSA is shutting down six of its 10 regional offices, while posts to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) website spark fears of upcoming field office closures around the country.

These assaults on the SSA threaten Americans’ ability to access the benefits they rely on to get by.

How Social Security cuts could put millions of older Americans at risk | PBS News

President Trump continues to claim his administration won’t touch Social Security. But as Elon Musk and the so-called Department of Government Efficiency look to slash federal jobs and spending, the Social Security Administration has plans to cut 12 percent of its workforce. Martin O’Malley, who was the commissioner of SSA during the Biden administration, joins Laura Barrón-López to discuss. …

In an apparent breach of President Donald Trump’s oft-repeated campaign promise not to cut a penny of funding to the Social Security Administration, the Trump administration announced on Feb. 28 that it will make significant cuts to the program.

While the planned actions will not directly affect the amount of money provided to Social Security beneficiaries, critics warn they will strain an already understaffed agency and make it harder to access the benefits tens of millions of people have already paid for through payroll taxes.

What the Social Security Administration does

The Social Security Administration’s main function is to administer retirement, disability, survivor and family benefits for more than 73 million Americans. It also is responsible for issuing Social Security numbers and cards and for the Medicare enrollment process.

Not a surprise.

Promises from politicians hold the ones who believe them.

And, from an ideological point of view, for Trump and Musk, and their head followers, social benefits are a communist heresy.

I am just wondering about the reaction of a MAGA rust belt family who will not get her monthly allocation.
