Rosa Luxemburg was clearly a linguistic, literary and political genius. Her embrace of revolutionary socialism was too much for the ruling class. Their answer was to murder her in cold blood before she and Karl Liebnecht could organize a revolutionary party to challenge the capitalist rulers in Germany. We must learn to protect that which is most precious to the working class : its revolutionary leadership and cadre, along with its historical knowledge of the class struggle

There can be no words other than her own to describe Rosa Luxemburg ( in her high school in Warsaw Record in Russian Роза Люксембург, and in Polish Róża Luksemburg).
So why to spell her name in those three languages? Because it was what Rosa was all about internationalism and its was not an intellectual rational decision to be internationalist but she felt it and lived it until her last breath over a 100 year ago.
For Luxemburg internationalism meant something very practical and emotional simply to save working people from spell of needless and senseless mutual hatred with no reason at all and bitter painful division for benefit of their own capitalist torturers in any country or geographic location.
Luxemburg as young girl born in Zamosc Poland and raised in Warsaw was exposed and engaged immensely in Polish independence movement to restore Polish state partitioned 1772-1792 by Russia, Prussia and Austro-Hungarian Empire.
It is this unique experience that made her understand in blatant and practical terms what Marx realized namely imperative of internationalism in working class revolution.
It happened when as very young person she realized that Polish elites residing in different partitions of Poland practically fused into elites of the countries that annexed those partitions of former Polish State and hence so called national liberation of Poland de facto would restore those corrupted, sold out elites and change nothing to elevate lives of Polish working class.
In other words she concluded that restoration of Polish nation state was a futile exercise that would change nothing as far as social relations and exploitation were concerned but perhaps under another facade or name or propaganda old ways would simply continue.
Her unequivocal anti war stand years before WWI was informed by those Polish nationals considerations extended to entire European working class as she simply revealed utter absurdity of working class engagement in any imperial wars ( although she pointed out that for what ever reason she did not care about aristocracy may have their war in some reclusive location as long as no workingman is hurt or participate in it).
That alone made her number one enemy of all elites and that include that who cited their own leftist and revolutionary legacy everywhere she went in Germany, Russia or her native Poland where she was accused of national treason and condemned until 1948.
Author of this article recognizing tremendous loss and impact of Luxemburg and Liebknecht murder is trying to speculate as to her personal security arrangements that might have saved her life.
But she as a true uncompromising revolutionary devoid of any political expediences, tendencies or tactical moves or interested in any reforms of old calcified system or accommodations with ruling elites or anything other than socialist revolution was attacked and hated by every kind of establishment or leadership from every European country and from every political angle as dangerous, enemy number one of systemic status quo, the rest wanted to turn to their political advantage mostly via peddling nationalistic context.
She simply had no one to trust but Karl Liebknecht and while she was inspiring millions of working class people who were ready to die for her trusting leadership she was more and more isolated from political class even from those on the left.
In fact in my, but not only my, opinion not only SPD was behind this premeditated political assassination but her isolation from European political left and that included leadership of Bolshevik Revolution who facing western invasion, counter revolution and civil war could not or would not stand behind her forcefully enough or even saw he demise as tangential to their own revolutionary struggle.
We know now that Luxemburg contribution was not tangential but central and critical and her murder should have been prevented as critical imperative for international reach of socialist revolution.
That however did not happened and Bolshevik Revolution was reversed into Stalin statism, nationalism or imperial chauvinism after KPD betrayal and suppressing of last of Workers Republics in Germany in 1923.
Not accidentally it was time of former socialist Mussolini taking power in Italy and official start of NSDAP as European oligarchic elite counterrevolutionary measures were deployed.
Even today judging by near complete blackout or distortion of Luxemburg legacy on most US universities in comparison even to Lenin or Trotsky legacy makes this supposedly fragile, cripled little woman and revolutionary giant most dangerous political subversive ever, even hundred + years dead.
We have to make sure that it will continue to be the case until socialist revolution she lead and fought for inevitably succeeds.
