science , technology and religion

We need to discuss modern times with science ,technology and religious influences. Bring everyone up to date. Eliminate the opinions and use verifiable information. Explore the emotional connection to our belief systems. Action.

Sorry, grandpa. We’re not big on taking orders around here. How about you post something substantive to start a conversation?

I agree. It’s action that counts, not words, and we need action now.
We could sit around here all day talking, passing resolutions, making clever speeches. It’s not going to shift one Roman soldier!
So, let’s just stop gabbing on about it. It’s completely pointless and it’s getting us nowhere!
This is a complete waste of time.

and then we die

All the various religions are social inventions created to build groups to influence society. My question is if we eliminate religion how do we replace the social organization that it provides. I do understand that this organization can be used for both positive and negative purposes.

I do understand that this organization can be used for both positive and negative purposes. Have you looked? Name a city over 100,000 people and what type of social organization you are looking for, I'll find it. What makes an organization "religious" is when it defines a person, or small group of people and/or some small set of rules or writings or philosophy as the only acceptable authority. Most churches today are pretending to allow for discussion about the meaning of the gospels, but they draw the line if you start saying it's mythology, or if you bring in too much from other religions. A few simple rules that allow for democracy in decision making eliminate religion without eliminating community.

Why are you here, then? I haven't noticed you posting anything that is any less a waste of time than anything else on this forum. How about setting an example since you think you have all the answers? You complain, yet you are one of the worst examples of the time wasting you complain about. You are the pot calling the kettle black. Lois
