Big challenges are coming, if we had been taking this manmade global warming thing and what the scientists have been warning us about seriously,
perhaps we would be prepared for the multiple battering we’re going to be receiving this hurricane season.
Not to mention wildfires and droughts.
The hurt is getting closer.
So how long, you think, before military spending needs to be diverted to saving our country ?
In terms of saving the country the military budget is more important than FEMA. That said, a few billion could be trimmed from it, but don’t count on that happening anytime soon.

So how long, you think, before military spending needs to be diverted to saving our country ?The military in the US isn't being used to protect the nation, it's being used to protect the interests of the same corporations that are killing us all with fossil fuel caused climate change. Look at where the US has been spending trillions fighting in the last three decades, it's all about oil. We don't own our governments any more - if we ever did - those who can afford to buy their people into office own our governments. Like rich oil, coal and gas companies. Which then demand that the government controlled militaries are then used to make sure those same companies never lose their control. It's rigged game and won't end as long as we let rich psychopaths run everything. Which means climate change is going to keep getting worse and worse and trillions of dollars more are going to be spent on making sure the oil, coal and gas keep flowing. It's obvious by now that mere people mean absolutely nothing to these freaks and that includes the governments of Russia and China as well.

If on the other hand, you accept that we are entering a new era of increasingly destructive weather events, be they multiple serious Hurricane hits, droughts, heat waves, torrential storm systems. Imagine if Irma had bullseye Miami and marched up the coast and flattened Cape Kennedy and on. We got lucky, still the big ones are going to keep getting bigger, it's simple geophysics. What happens when the Mississippi makes that right turn into the Atchafalaya that its been wanting to do for decades. 2011, was close, but we got lucky again. It's only a matter of time and every torrential downpour brings it a little closer until, ... I could see a time, who knows how far or near, when those realities outweigh the contrived wars people have established for fun and profit. Think about how amazingly fast the past decade screamed by? Haven't you noticed something relentless underfoot, momentum, things that we have always relied on, aren't so reliable or even available any more. We have a very complex interconnected world, and those connects have fragile weak links, I'm in awe at how well it runs, but from getting around a bit I'm also aware of many weak links. Ain't like sudden collapse of wonderful civilizations hasn't happen before. It isn't like anyone has learned lessons from all those previous examples.

They should pull themselves up by their bootstraps, just like the 1% did. Ha!

The Warfare State: How Funding for Militarism Compromises Our Welfare
May 24, 2023 - Download PDF Version
Key Findings
In FY 2023, out of a $1.8 trillion federal discretionary budget, $1.1 trillion — or 62 percent— was for militarized programs. That includes war and weapons, law enforcement and mass incarceration, and detention and deportation.
Less than $2 out of every $5 in federal discretionary spending was available to fund investment in people and communities, including primary and secondary public education, housing programs, child care programs, federal disaster relief, environmental programs, and scientific research.
The U.S. spent $16 on the military and war for every $1 that was spent on diplomacy and humanitarian foreign aid.
- The vast majority of militarized spending was for weapons, war and the Pentagon, at $920 billion.
- Only $56 billion was spent for international affairs, diplomacy, and humanitarian foreign aid.
The U.S. spent $51.1 billion for homeland security, approximately half of which goes to ICE ($8.8 billion) and CBP ($17.4 billion), the agencies responsible for deportations, family separations, and violent apprehension at the southern border.
- That’s nearly three times spending on substance abuse and mental health programs ($7.5 billion), even as opioid use remains a major cause of death.
**The U.S. federal budget allocated twice as much for federal law enforcement,**which includes federal prisons, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies ($31 billion), as for child care and early childhood education programs ($15 billion).
Since 2001, the U.S. has added $2 to the discretionary budget for militarism for every $1 added to invest in communities.
- Spending on care for veterans has nearly tripled since 2001, following 20 years of war, repeated deployments for the 3 million veterans who served in the post-9/11 wars, and rampant physical and mental health needs of returning veterans.
- Spending on homeland security (excluding FEMA) has more than doubled since 2001, and spending on the military and nuclear weapons has grown by 80 percent, in inflation-adjusted terms.
Militarism Mania
Here are the militarized federal programs that together account for nearly two-thirds of all discretionary spending. …
Now on to 2025 and the crushing of the American dream, home of the brave and land of the free, and all that. Corporate Amerika is arriving, out with the old and in with the despotic.
That’s what Eisenhower called the military-industrial complex. He warned against it.
He was the first to warn against it.
One of its biggest demeanor was the second Iraqi war, with its disastrous consequences.
Despite his campaign rhetoric, not much hope Trump will clamper it down.
That’s the price we pay for being the world’s police force.
