10 Commandments fun facts:

There are 2-3 versions in the Bible…

And yes: the actual version called “The Ten Commandments” are as follows:

1) Do not worship any god other than Yahweh. (2) Do not make molten gods. (3) Keep the feast of unleavened bread. (4) The firstborn offspring of every cow and sheep is to be sacrificed to God. (5) The seventh day of each week is set aside to rest. (6) Observe the feast of weeks. (7) All male children must appear before God three times per year. (8) The blood of a sacrifice shall not be offered together with yeast, nor shall the sacrifice of the Passover feast be left until the next morning. (9) The “first of the firstfruits” of the land are to be brought before God. (10) Do not boil a baby goat in its mother’s milk.

Pretty sure we don’t follow any of those.

The set we (supposedly) know are these:

Exodus 20:1 “And God spake all these words, saying, 20:2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 20:11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. 20:13 Thou shalt not kill. 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 20:15 Thou shalt not steal. 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s.”

As for American laws being based on those 10 Commandments, which ones would those be other than murder?

Only lying in court is against the Commandments, not lying in general.

Also, rape is not against any Commandments. If you are married it’s all good, because there is no mention of consent in the Bible at all.

Re numerology, astrology, fortune telling & magick there’s TONS of stuff to freak Christians out with.

Of the usual 10 listed only 2 have made it into criminal law and 1 into civil law. The first 5 are total shit, not in any law anywhere and cannot be, Constitutionally. Murder (#6) is illegal even in primitive societies, as is theft (#8). Adultery (#7) is a civil matter and bearing false witness (#9) is only a criminal matter if you’re under oath and a civil matter if it crosses the line into libel or slander. So 1-5 and 10, a full 60%, aren’t in any law anywhere and cannot possibly be added into any law anywhere, at least in the US. In fact, 10, the “don’t covet” one, is regulating thought, not actions, so that one is actually impossible to put into law and have it enforceable.

Bearing false witness (lying). I think that would be a good law. The punishment should be a full 1 day requirement (for each lie) to not say anything

That way, by now, T rump would be required not to say anything for pretty much the rest of his life.

We’d have to keep him alive at least ten more years just to cover yesterday’s tweets.

Lefty, You got me to laugh out loud. That is no small fete. You or OKAY in my book.
