Is this racism?

I think I understand the Western culture just fine. Anyway, although what I wrote here is just one personal story, I can assure you I have many more. Plus, there is enough data to prove that Markel is right.
Whatever Bro. There's hundreds of millions if not billions of other examples which say you and this Markel are wrong. I told you about those quasi-science books. They're horrendous. They are poisoning your mind. But whatever.
Actually, most of them never assimilate, which is why Markel announced a few years back that "multiculturalism has utterly failed." It is usually the second generation that causes problems, as they are not really sure where they belong. They don't fully associate with their parents' countries of origin and they don't feel accepted by the society they now find themselves living in. No idea where you're getting this "complete assimilation" from, VYAZMA.
What are you claiming here? I was born here 50 years ago and have seen this country go through huge changes, many due to our increasing diversity. There is no static social model to assimilate to, Canada like any place is evolving as it grows and that includes from the influences that come from outside. If new arrivals don't find a place in Canadian society where they are comfortable they often create a new one.

You are right: we have many “societies” around GTA, created by people who didn’t feel all that comfortable by loving their racially different neighbours. West is white, east is Asian, north GTA is Indian (dot, not feather) and north Toronto is Black. The questions is what will happen when we run out of space. Though, it has already begun to happen: the Indians are moving west and the whites are leaving. I guess you are not from GTA (?).

No, I'm in Edmonton. It's a lot more mixed than that, the outlying communities may have more of a traditional racial make-up, but Edmonton itself is a real melting pot. Not that we don't have problems at times.

You can't prove that. Maybe most of these people just feel better living in their own ethnic neighborhoods. And obviously as far as fresh immigrants go, where else are they going to go. Their "advance party" family members or friends hooked them up with a starting place. In their own neighborhoods obviously. That's how it works. Then kids start going to schools with other kids. People get jobs in places with other people. People start going to events and restaurants and movies with other people. What do you want George? Nightly inter-cultural foot massage nights at the host's house? You're seeing the pattern too easily because it stands out. Try looking at all the cultural diversity which is all around you in Toronto. At jobs, on the streets, at the shows, at the restaurants, at churches etc. It's easy to see the large blocks of things that are the same. It's harder to see the general background noise which is a huge melting pot of people and cultures. Obviously there are tensions sometimes. So what? This is normal.

I don’t know about the rest of the world or even the country, but in Southern California it’s fascinating to see how many inter-racial couples there are, with kids of intermediate pigmentation and other characteristics. I think this will continue to become more common over the next few generations until pigmentation will no longer be a block to assimilation. And as computer linguistic translation becomes faster and more accurate, even that will cease to be a problem.
Just think, George, in a few hundred years no one will even think about genetic differentiation between groups.
Occam

If anything, the differences will be even more salient. If I feel like it, I might add a few numbers here later on. Not that I really want to listen to VYAZMA’s thoughtful comments if I decide to post it. Let me think about it…

 Great can't wait to see the data you have. If you feel like it... :red: I can't even begin to fathom how they can compile data like this. Should be interesting. I can see why you wouldn't want to listen to my thoughtful comments though.

Oh gosh. I just realized…you meant THE Angela Merkel. Chancellor of Germany.
I guess she decided she would be better suited in German Politics.
Obviously the Nationalist/Cultural ideas of “multi-culturalism” have far different meanings in a political context than they do in actual
historic, scientific contexts.
The political one would revolve around and be stoked by economic/nationalist fervor.
The scientific/historic model would easily show that cultures have mixed, races have mixed, nations have mixed since the beginning of recorded time. And easily continue to do so.
Admittedly I have nationalist ideals too. But mine are not centered around cultural or racial contexts. They are purely economic in a global trade sense.
It’s obvious Merkel’s ideas of nationalism is purely economic-especially when Germany, the richest of the EU states has to start sharing the burden of poorer states. Ooops Merkel. Sounded like a good idea at the time didn’t it? Money to be made by all parties. Oops.
From there it’s just a short hop to claiming “that Multi-culturalism doesn’t work”. Typisch!!
Switzerland just did the same thing. I get it. I’m empathetic to it.
But scientifically it’s not true on a cultural/race assimilation deal. Races and cultures mix easily. Most of the time.
We all wouldn’t be here today if they didn’t.

Wrote it, erased it. What’s the point? I am tired of this. If you care to know, you’ll look it up yourselves.

Yeah because you're talking about racial isolation based on stressful economic reasons. That's racism. That's been proven around the world a million times. That's racism. Just like the Irish when they got to America. That's another matter. This thread was more along the lines of different cultures and races being able to mix in a given society. We had Cuthbert's and your anecdotal stories which highlight the obvious alienation that can sometimes occur. That doesn't mean that: a. multi-culturalism is dead b. that those people at Cuthbert's place of work were being racist.
You might as well accuse all of us here of being sexists since we are all men--except for Lois who I think might be a woman.
Women can be sexist, too. Yes, Lois is a woman, but not a sexist one.

What if a white person did not want to work around Asians, because that white person is offended by the Asians’ nasty body odor? Would that be racist?

Why did you edit this Mid Atlantic? It still shows you have the brains of a 9-10th grade level education. Were you afraid the way you originally posted this question would reveal you for the stunted intellect that you are? ..."What if I didn't want to work with Asians because they stink? Would that be racist? Yes, I read your original post before you deleted it and re-wrote it. The stupid thing about you is the new wording is just as ugly. It still shows you are base and starved for attention, just like a 9th grader.

The reason I changed it is that it just suits me more to say they have nasty body odor, then..... 'they stink". I have to make sure everyone realizes this is from the perspective of a white person who doesn't give a fuck about PC. Suck it.

Well at least you didn't take the coward route and try to deny writing your original post. I felt there was a good chance you would.

I had to cherrypick this quote Vy to jump back in here, and some of what I'm reading in other posts is appalling racist and just plain shortsighted. First, multiculturalism in Germany does not in any way equate to the same in the U.S. Call it a spatial problem if you will, they have 78 million people crammed into a space the size of Texas and we have 360 million in a country 3,000 miles wide, if you are impressed with statistics. And I sympathize with Merkel's problems what with the influx of Middle Eastern Gastarbeiters looking for permanent residence and straining the economy, that on top of the German desire to preserve their unique culture. But this country, the U.S. evolved via multiculturalism, something we've been struggling with for the last four hundred years but we blended anyway despite the vain attempts to prevent it by certain groups in power. No matter how you twist it with stats or cherrypicked anecdotes this country IS the pinnacle of multicuralusm, and anyone who denies that is self delusional. If you want examples then pick up a general survey of American History. I won't bore you with the details unless you want me too, then I'll bury you in facts. I hate racists, I've lived near them my whole adult life and the concept of racial "superiority" disgusts me. I judge people by their actions alone and not by skin tone, accent, or philosophy. Hell, we're all immigrants here, just check out your surname. But that's my point; multicuralusm works, here at least and eventually as each culture slowly assimilated so did pieces of the culture they brought with them. Look at every aspect of American culture, art, science, literature, language, philosophy and you'll see the undertones of another culture. So yeah, we are the "background noise" and we are the "melting pot" and despite the efforts of some elitists we'll continue to be. Cap't Jack

Yes, Jack, we are all immigrants or descendants of immigrants, (just like everyone, anywhere in the world is), but for some reason Australian accent today is cooler than Polish or Pakistani (at least according to most women). Why is that?

I actually thought I was much smarter before joining this forum. :)
It has that effect on some people! Lois
What if a white person did not want to work around Asians, because that white person is offended by the Asians' nasty body odor? Would that be racist?
Yes, but the way to handle that is for you to find some other work. Other people might not be crazy about your nasty body odor, either. So put up, shut up, or find other work. There must be SOMETHING you could do that doesn't require any human contact. Lois
