“Art” is a product of an “Artist” regardless of the medium.

FYI, my daughter is a photographer and even when she was attending college (2001 - 2005), there were remnants of the idea that photography was not really art.
I've always thought the answer was No, it isn't an art. In the olden days maybe you'd have to master some techniques to actually produce the pictures, but with digital cameras that's pretty much gone. I'm sorry, but to me it just seems like it's a matter of point and click. And to make things "artsy" you use black and white, and maybe throw the main subject off center. I'm sure many will disagree, and I'd love to hear your opinions.I think photography "can" be art but often isn't. Art is not about the subject or the medium, it's about the human expression of emotion and the human reception of that expression. Sometimes a rose is just a rose and sometimes it's the freaking Mona Lisa. MzLee You could say that about all art. There are plenty of examples out there of bad art art by any intelligent standard. But that doesn't affect what IS good art to most people. There are billions of photographs that would not qualify as art, but there is a limited number of photographs that do. The ability of rank amateurs to engage in the practice does not affect true art. Lois

It doesn't mean that opinion makes any sense to most other people. The fact that there were "remnants of the idea that phoyography was not really art" in those years means nothing. The world is littered with remnants of ideas and opinions and always will be. Lois
Yea art is all over the place - and photograph is surely an art form.
totally jump to left field here,
Last summer I got to spend a bunch of time working on taking out an old dilapidated fence, but it still had corners and wood posts and cross bracing wires in OK shape here and there and the owner didn’t want all of it out. She wanted to keep a little of the old ambiance. So let me decide what to tear out and what sections to keep and fix up and make nice looking, though they didn’t hold anything in or out anymore. Basically turning what was a working fence line into various pieces of rustic “art”. It was another fun time in paradise musing on the flow of time and all (noticing more about this ranch and what a cool but hard place it must have once been, back when it was alive and working) and the “what is art” question that’s always fun, specially when you are surround by it.
What Mac said. If you think differently I challenge to come out shooting with me sometime. Hacks get lucky once in a while; artists see the final result before taking the photo.Has digital photography changed the probability of hacks getting lucky along with digital post-processing? psik Just what is the difference between post-processing and putting the finishing touches on an oil painting, or going back and reworking it at a later date?
Did Bob Ross produce art?
